Lyrically Speaking - 2/9/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:05 am

Seven days from now, it will still be Tuesday.... but for the final time in 2021, you will experience Tuesday Wordplay. Unless you like to go back and play old LSWE games.... in which case, well, knock yourself out! Just don't expect any retroactive points...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Every new beginning
Comes from some
Other beginning's end, yeah

2. Life is a liar yeah life is a cheat
It'll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet
No use complainin', don't you worry, don't you whine

3. I would climb any mountain
Sail across the stormy sea
If that's what it takes me, baby
To show how much you mean to me

4. Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why

5. If she's with me I'll blink the lights
To let you know tonight's the night

6. Don't put your head on my shoulder
Sink me in a river of tears
This could be the best place yet
But you must overcome your fears

7. Whoa, oh, oh, say those words
Again like you just did
Oh, baby, tell it to me once again

8. The place where I come from
Is a small town
They think so small
They use small words

9. It was late in December the sky turned to snow
All round the day was going down slow
Night like a river beginning to flow
I felt the beat of my mind go drifting into

10. Well, the stories coming back to me
From my friends and the people that I wanna see
The things they say I know just couldn't be true
At least not until I hear it from you

11. If you're lost
You can look and
You will find me

12. I think about her all the time
She's my fantasy
An image burning in my mind
Calling out to me

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day in the title.

Image Bonus: If you know the word.... do I really have to explain this again?

1. Every new beginning
Comes from some
Other beginning's end, yeah

Closing Time - Semisonic

Okay, this is crazy! I really don't know this song, other than hearing several times on television singing competitions. It seems like it's a favourite of Adam Levine's and I'm pretty sure it was on the Masked Singer at some point. Anyway, enough so that I didn't get it until I was putting it together with time songs. But I didn't know who did it, since I can't remember ever hearing it on the radio. So, I get in the truck today to go to the store and what's the first thing I hear on the radio? "one last call for alcohol". No way! It ends just as I'm pulling into the parking lot and I'm begging them to please say who the artist is after it's over... and they did! Also said that it's actually about childbirth, which I don't really get but, whatever. What are the fricking odds? I should have bought a lottery tickekt while I was in there.....

2. Life is a liar yeah life is a cheat
It'll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet
No use complainin', don't you worry, don't you whine

3. I would climb any mountain

Feels Like the First Time - Foreigner

4. Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why

No Time - Guess Who

Wow, two Guess Whos this year and neither one was Undun....

5. If she's with me I'll blink the lights
To let you know tonight's the night

Part Time Lover - Stevie Wonder

6. Don't put your head on my shoulder
Sink me in a river of tears
This could be the best place yet
But you must overcome your fears

Time (Clock of the Heart) - Culture Club

7. Whoa, oh, oh, say those words
Again like you just did
Oh, baby, tell it to me once again

Do That to Me One More Time - Captain and Tennille

Back in the day this was considered pretty racy coming from Toni and the Skipper....

8. The place where I come from
Is a small town
They think so small
They use small words

9. It was late in December the sky turned to snow
All round the day was going down slow
Night like a river beginning to flow

Time Passages - Al Stewart

aka The One That's Not the Year of the Cat....

10. Well, the stories coming back to me
From my friends and the people that I wanna see
The things they say I know just couldn't be true
At least not until I hear it from you

Bad Time - Grand Funk Railroad

So, being the GFR fan that I am, people might be surprised to know that We're an American Band and Some Kind of Wonderful are not even in my top three! It goes 1. Bad Time 1a. Sally 3. The Locomotion

11. If you're lost
You can look and
You will find me

Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper

Not my favourite Cyndi song, but my favourite Malcolm McDowell/Mary Steenburgen movie. FFF: CL got the title for the song by seeing the movie listing in TV Guide. Is TV Guide still published even? Once ubiquitous, it now seems obsolete. Remember when the big deal was getting the Fall Preview edition? FFF2: I think that might have been Corey Feldman's first movie. He's the little kid nosey poking around the exhibit in the museum.

12. I think about her all the time

Calling out to me

1. Every new beginning
Comes from some
Other beginning's end, yeah
Closing Time - Semisonic (One of the "unloading anthems" that was all over the radio my first year at Mecca, and one of the few I liked at the time...)

2. Life is a liar yeah life is a cheat
It'll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet
No use complainin', don't you worry, don't you whine
Get It Right Next Time - Gerry Rafferty (Forget Baker Street and even Right Down the Line. This song is pure, late 70's mellow rock gold!)

3. I would climb any mountain
Sail across the stormy sea
If that's what it takes me, baby
To show how much you mean to me
Feels Like the First Time - Foreigner

4. Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
No Time - Guess Who

5. If she's with me I'll blink the lights
To let you know tonight's the night
Part Time Lover - Stevie Wonder (That movie line that was in the Tangredi puzzle not too long ago about Stevie Wonder irked the hell out of me. I'll take 80's Stevie over classic Stevie any day!)

6. Don't put your head on my shoulder
Sink me in a river of tears
This could be the best place yet
But you must overcome your fears
Time (Parenthetical of My Heart) - Culture Club (There are a number of 80's songs that are still popular today that I somehow have no recollection of back in their day. This would be one of them...)

7. Whoa, oh, oh, say those words
Again like you just did
Oh, baby, tell it to me once again
Do That To Me One More Time - Captain and Tennille (Speaking of mellow rock gold... I love this one!)

8. The place where I come from
Is a small town
They think so small
They use small words
Big Time - Peter Gabriel (Peter Gabriel's the artist with the curl on his head. When he's good, he's very very good. This is on his very very good list...)

9. It was late in December the sky turned to snow
All round the day was going down slow
Night like a river beginning to flow
I felt the beat of my mind go drifting into
Time Passages - Al Stewart

10. Well, the stories coming back to me
From my friends and the people that I wanna see
The things they say I know just couldn't be true
At least not until I hear it from you
Bad Time - Grand Funk Railroad

11. If you're lost
You can look and
You will find me
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper (Probably her only hit I really don't like...)

12. I think about her all the time
She's my fantasy
An image burning in my mind
Calling out to me
This Time - Bryan Adams

Image Bonus: If you know the word.... do I really have to explain this again?

Alright.... Earl wins. And only because that #&@*( Peanut Butter and Jelly Time song was a staple of late 00's Mecca Radio, and I couldn't stand it. Bad kitty!

JJC Points:

Panic gets 2 JJC points for being the anti-tbONE, and for the Dali. All the times I ever saw an image of that painting, and that's the first time I noticed the ants....

Weasel gets a supermax for 10 years in time out, which was fucking hilarious!

Krox gets 2 JJC points for the appropriately named Dr. WHO?

frank gets 3 JJC points for the personal lives of Captain and Tennille, and for giving me the thyme of day...

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for the life of a fly...

mrk gets 3 JJC points for that cover of Time I once redid with Skanki and Buster. I'm not up on my alien movies, but I kinda get the reference...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for the Ministry of Silly Clocks (I'm impressed with myself that I knew the reference despite never seeing the sketch!)

melly gets 2 JJC points for pantsless art...

Earl gets a supermax for somehow having never heard Closing Time before, which has been a radio staple since it came out, the late TV Guide, and for annoying songs that kittens like...

Where's Sprots?

Points:

Panic 23+2
Weasel 23+5
ear 16
Krox 17+2
frank 23+3
Vandal 21+2
mrk 25+3
TBone 29+2
melly 21+2
Hottie 11
Earl 25+5+5
