Lyrically Speaking - 2/4/21

Meet Rainy, one of the many curiosities I've collected over the years, and one of the stars of Shelf Critter Theatre on my blog. Is there anything more adorable than a skunk holding a rain gauge? Of course there isn't. Unfortunately for Rainy, since I only keep her inside, she never actually gets to collect any rain in her gauge, and that really pisses her off.... and you don't want to be around a pissed off skunk. So to pacify her for a bit, I created this game of some of her favorite songs. Songs which, naturally, mention her favorite weather phenomenon and get her very excited. Actually, you know, it's not a good idea to be around an excited skunk either. Excuse me while I crack open a few windows...

Edited to add: And right on cue... as soon as I post this, it starts RAINING!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness
Steps up to greet me

2. Well, they'll stone you
When you're walkin' on the street
They'll stone you
When you're trying to keep your seat

3. Now you wished
That you should had her
And you feel like such a fool
You let her walk away

4. After a while
We run under a tree
I turn to her
And she kisses me

5. I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

6. I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean

7. Well, she's kinda pretty
Drives a big car too
And when I hold her in my arms
I never know what to do

8. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

9. Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me

10. I never wanted to
Be your weekend lover
I only wanted to
Be some kind of friend

11. Come on, you little fighter
No need to get up tighter
Come on, you little fighter
And get back up again

12. Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone

1. But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness
Steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin on my head, BJ Thomas. Did I ever mention that parts of the wonderful movie this Oscar-winning song comes from were filmed within about 30 minutes of my house?

2. Well, they'll stone you
When you're walkin' on the street
They'll stone you
When you're trying to keep your seat

Rainy Day Women, Bob Dylan

3. Now you wished
That you should had her
And you feel like such a fool
You let her walk away

When I get the first two, I'm supposed to get #3 also. I blame the meister. Or maybe the skunk.

4. After a while
We run under a tree
I turn to her
And she kisses me

Ooh, I hear

Laughter in the Rain, Neil Sedaka. OK, #4's not too bad.

5. I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

I was looking for this one. I love a rainy night, Eddie Money

6. I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean

Here comes the rain again, . . . I blame the skunk.

7. Well, she's kinda pretty
Drives a big car too
And when I hold her in my arms
I never know what to do

I blame the meister AND the skunk.

8. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

It's raining men.

9. Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me

I'm glad I don't know this one. What a terrible song.

10. I never wanted to
Be your weekend lover
I only wanted to
Be some kind of friend

Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Prince. Actually, the title is only one purple rain even though he sings it about a dozen times.

11. Come on, you little fighter
No need to get up tighter
Come on, you little fighter
And get back up again

12. Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone

Be some kind of friend

11. Come on, you little fighter
No need to get up tighter
Come on, you little fighter
And get back up again

12. Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions rain in the title.

1. But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me
Won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness
Steps up to greet me

When you're walkin' on the street
They'll stone you

That you should had her
And you feel like such a fool
You let her walk away
Blame It On The Rain - Milli Vanilli (Who cost real talent like Neneh Cherry Best New Artist for 1989...)

We run under a tree
I turn to her
And she kisses me
Laughter in the Rain - Neil Sedaka

Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

6. I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean

Drives a big car too

Could find the perfect guy

Pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down
Pour your misery down on me

Be your weekend lover
I only wanted to
Be some kind of friend

No need to get up tighter
Come on, you little fighter
And get back up again
It's Raining Again - Supertramp

12. Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone
Raindrops - Dee Clark

I created JJC points and the Image Bonus Bonus to reward those who can make me fall out of or bolt up out of my chair in a laughing fit. The image that did that in this game was the final one. A blatant golden showers image with a big honkin' PornHub logo on it.... posted by Bob of all people! Yes, he's getting the 5 points today, and keep those showers away from me...

JJC Points:

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for inferred golden showers...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for Norma Jean's umbrella...

Panic gets 2 JJC points for copying off of Weasel's paper...

melly gets 2 JJC points for making me look up Rain Pryor, whose existence I was unaware of...

frank gets 2 JJC points for laughing at BJ (giving a whole new meaning to the title), and for singing until you get pneumonia...

Krox gets 2 JJC points.... I tried to figure out the meaning of that image for a while, and I think I finally realized it was representing the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Was I right?

TBone gets 3 JJC points for acid rain and just another Spring day in the Midwest...

mrk gets 3 JJC points for going lower down the list of Rainy Day Women and for the mothership of storms...

jarnon gets 2 JJC points for a non-PETA approved image...

Earl gets 3 JJC points for having rhthym and for fat cats at the strip club...

Sprots gets 3 JJC points for once again messing up Eddie Money and Eddie Rabbitt (if it were Earl, I'd know she were doing it intentionally), blaming the skunk, which is never a good idea, and shouting out someone who isn't even in her image...

Bob gets a supermax for pissing on the entire game...

I'm glad you liked it. I'll confess I was a little concerned it would piss you off. --Bob

Sometimes I amaze myself. As I was typing the title, I was thinking "Edward Hare." Aargh!

I have no problem blaming the skunk. Libby hasn't tangled with one. Yet.

Hey, I TRIED to find a photo of Patrick in the rain, thinking this would be my last chance to invoke the LS Image gods in support of the Chiefs. It was the best I could do. Yeah, yeah, I know that's not saying much.

GO CHIEFS!
