Weyoun, Confessor, PSM, Uly....
Come get me!
I think Weyoun will definitely pass me, and probably GGossage. I don't know how many days the rest of you had built up.

you are safe from me. I was a lot smarter in the first half of the month.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I didn't have a question in my inbox today. Who did I tick off?
Since I didn't join until mid-April, I wasn't anywhere close to a leaderboard. We'll see what happens in May.

You can go to the site and look for the Command Center and get your question there.hermillion wrote:I didn't have a question in my inbox today. Who did I tick off?![]()

That is fast. I think you get 1000 for being correct and the rest is a bonus for being fast.christie1111 wrote:Okay, you've done it now. I am in!
I got 1353 on my first Q. Is that good?
Of course it doesn't take long to WAG and randomly pick one.
I don't think I have ever gotten 400 or more for speed.

It would be easy enough to set up two accounts and see the question on one account for practice, then have another account that is competitive.ulysses5019 wrote:I think if everyone got the same question this might lead to cheating.......not that anyone on this board would do such a thing.
I enjoy the randomness of the questions.

Congratulations on your good showing this month. I still don't know exactly how Sploofus scoring works. I think I missed two questions in April, so I still have room for improvement. I also think I lose at least 100 points per day because I use a cumbersome pointing device instead of a mouse, but if I really cared, I'd do something about that.
I'm not clear on what happens when people don't answer their questions on the day they are sent. I think you can save up a backlog of questions for up to about two weeks before they expire. So if I started May with about 14 unanswered questions from April, could I answer them all at once on 5/1 and jump into a huge lead for May? Or do questions sent in April only count toward the April scoreboard? If that's true, can you answer April questions in May and have them count toward the April scoreboard, or does the April scoreboard get locked at whatever the results are as of midnight tonight?
Don't worry about me catching you. I'm through for the month.

I don't always get to mine the day they're sent, but the e-mail message indicates that the link expires after a specified length of time, so they can't be "saved up" for very long.TheConfessor wrote:Congratulations on your good showing this month. I tested some of this stuff a few months ago. I think you can "save up" questions for ten days before they start expiring. If the end of the month intervenes, you're out of luck, because they stop the leaderboard at midnight local time on the last day of the month.
When you first join Sploofus, they do give a stern warning about creating multiple accounts, but I'm not sure what their enforcement is like, if they even have any. I can't imagine people would cheat too much -- first of all, there're too many ways to earn "overall" points. Second, there's only a few categories for QOTD, and you can even exempt one of those.
I'm sure there are some lightning Googlers out there who can get the right answer before time runs out, but the speed bonus kind of minimizes that, as well.

Today's e-mail stated that the question expires 5/10/08. Apparently the questions are good for ten days. So my original question about the scoring is valid.earendel wrote:I don't always get to mine the day they're sent, but the e-mail message indicates that the link expires after a specified length of time, so they can't be "saved up" for very long.

My e-mail didn't come till 11:30 this morning. It's usually here when I start work at 7:30.hermillion wrote:I didn't have a question in my inbox today. Who did I tick off?
