RIP: My Best Friend's Wife

#1 Post by Sir_Galahad » Mon Apr 28, 2008 6:16 pm

Talk about having a string of disasters in one's life. About six weeks ago, a friend I have known for about 30 (yes 30) years went outside to retrieve his dog that ran outside during an ice and snow storm. Unfortunately, he did not see the black ice on his sidewalk where he slipped and broke a couple of vertebrae leaving him partially paralyzed. This was exacerbated by the fact that several of his vertebrae had been fused so they were so brittle they just shattered when he fell. He has been in rehabilitation trying to re-learn to walk and regain partial use of his hands. I wish I could have been with him to help out but he lives in New York and I was unable to go there.

Then, last Friday, he called me and told me that his wife had died of complications from a stroke she incurred during her battle with lung cancer. The sad thing is, I had just spoken with her the week before and she sounded fine and cheerful. It's funny (not ha ha funny) how life can be so fleeting.

May she rest in peace. It's very sad and my heart breaks for your friend in this very difficult time. He needs you more than ever now. My sincere condolences.
