The Big Risk: China VS Domestic Failings
At the Viral/Pandemic level
If you look out 2 years/5 years/10 years where is the big strategic risk.
Is it something new coming out of China-maybe much deadlier-and them hiding it or it escaping from a biolab or whatever-or is it domestic failings?
If 95% of you want to ankle bite and do the domestic politics stuff-go ahead-have your fun-because you are not constructive and, as a reminder, most of you were distracted by impeachment as the virus gathered steam. I wasn't.
There is room for me to keep my eye on where I believe the big pandemic threat is: which is obviously China.
Go ahead and ankle bite the China stuff-I could care less.

Re: The Big Risk: China VS Domestic Failings
Well, just on a hunch, I would gather that our intelligence services have better access to information out of China or any country for that matter than you do.
Whether they will act on it or not is a different question. Even Heb Foods acted on the China information they had at the end of January. I'm sure that the Biden administration will put back a number of the pandemic resources that Trump dismantled and will pay closer attention to China in the future.
No one is denying that the Chinese lied and covered this up and that they will lie and cover things up in the future. But while it may make you happier to blame those foreigners for all our woes, it won't help this situation or help prevent another one.
I'm just curious. While you were so intently following the news out of China, what, if anything did you do about it? Did you write the White House or your Congressperson or Senator or Governor suggesting that they take action? Did you advise all your neighbors and townsfolk to practice social distancing as soon as a case was reported in this country? Or did you just sit at home feeling good that you were vindicated by spotting the evil foreign menace?

Fair question actually.
Obviously, at the macro level, I couldn't do anything. Yeah, it would really work to show up pounding on the doors of congress-yelling "The end is near."
My personality is not that of a salesman/evangelist. It is not in me to tell anyone to social distance or wash hands or anything
However, at the micro level-I was/am mentally prepared for almost anything to happen.
Got yanked off the internet as kids needed it for school.
IMHO, the longer this goes on-Civic unrest is not off the table in the cities. High value retailers boarding up their windows does not imply a high level of trust in civic stability.

On so many issues (Hong Kong, trade secrets, Uighurs) China has displayed that it doesn't care what the world thinks. But the WHO is easier to convince. It should get its act together and be tougher on China. Dr. Fauci seems to be on good terms with WHO leadership. He should push for this before the next crisis.

Yes, the WHO should get its act together and be tougher on China. However, they won't. They seem to be all-in as China's lackeys in this.
As I posted in the other thread-The credibility and unbiasment(not a word-but I couldn't think of a better one) of the WHO when it comes to China leaves much to be desired.
See among many other things-the Japan VP comments that the WHO should be called the Chinese Health Organization.
When I get time later-I have a couple of other WHO news items for over there on the other thread.

He was excitedly waiting for months/years like a kid waiting for Christmas-Because Russia!!!! and then Impeachment!!!!
Plagues and pandemics and preparation for such was the farthest thing from his mind. Which goes for many others here as well.
But now, it is the latest Squirrel.

I have only ever heard of ankle-biters to mean children; they are nibbling at ankles because they are on the floor.
What does it mean in this instance? I truly couldn't get it from the context, other than to know it was an insult.

It's an attempt to minimize as trivial the concerns being raised. --BobRitterskoop wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:23 pmI have only ever heard of ankle-biters to mean children; they are nibbling at ankles because they are on the floor.

I'm pretty sure that Skoop got that from "little, annoying dogs." I'm SHOCKED that you could be so patronizing.Bob78164 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 2:09 amIt's an attempt to minimize as trivial the concerns being raised.Ritterskoop wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:23 pmI have only ever heard of ankle-biters to mean children; they are nibbling at ankles because they are on the floor.
