#1 Post by elwoodblues » Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:01 pm

Take this test to find out which circle of Hell you are destined for:

http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv

I made the second level.

I was assigned to Purgatory. What does it mean if I don't believe in Purgatory?

That and Level 2 were both Very High. For some reason, level 8 was Moderate, and everything else was either Low or Very Low.

I made the sixth level. I'm sure that it's because I don't believe in god or religion.

Second Circle for me. At least I was very low in the circle of Pandering and Avarice.

6th level heretic for me, no surprise.

I'm headed for Limbo myself (a place of sorrow without punishment), though I did get a high score for Purgatory as well. I'll "share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle" -- not too shabby, I suppose. I wonder if they get cable? :D

I think so, but I hear Caesar does not like to give up the remote.

Doesn't matter, since Socrates just keeps up a running dialogue with anyone.

And Homer is content to watch anything.

The problem with Socrates is that he's always asking questions. I think he just likes to listen to himself talk.

As for Homer, he complains if you ever hit the mute button.

It's Purgatory for me. Given that Dante indicates seven levels to Purgatory, I'd be spending a lot of time on the sixth terrace (the gluttinous) since that's another strong point on my quiz results.

I was introduced to Dante in my junior year in high school - we read John Ciardi's translation of Inferno and I was inspired to get the other two volumes and read them also. Ciardi is the only poet I know who attempted to duplicate Dante's terza rima scheme:

ABA BCB CDC

The best Ciardi could do given the limitations of English was:

ABA CDC EFE (the first and third lines of each stanza rhyme)
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

Although I did well in levels 4-8, with a decent mark in level 2 for good measure, I was assigned a nice stateroom with its own fireplace in Level 6.

I pretty much have a doleful sigh down pat so I should fit right in...

Maybe it's because of the way you attacked the craft drawers in your quilting room.

I'm in limbo.

Purgatory Repenting Believers Very Low
Level 1 - Limbo Virtuous Non-Believers High
Level 2 Lustful High
Level 3 Gluttonous Moderate
Level 4 Prodigal and Avaricious Low

Level 8- the Malebolge Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers Moderate
Level 9 - Cocytus Treacherous Very Low

A few of the T/F questions are interesting to me.
Spoiler
"Through God, all things are possible."

Kind of the definition of God, isn't it? I wanted to put false but I struggle to think of things that would not be possible for God. I suppose you could say that God doesn't exist but I see no proof of that so how can I put limits on a theoretical God?

"Religion is fiction."

I don't think this is a sentence that can be agreed with. You might be able to say that particular or even all religions are based on fictions but to make the two equal is kind of weird to me.

"Hammering away on scandals is a good way to damage those with whom you disagree politically."

Depends on how you define "good". It is apparently effective. That might be "good".

"Fasting is a way of expressing religious conviction that you have chosen or would gladly choose."

If I had religious convictions I think this might be a good way to express them. Hard to say what would choose.
