Jack Welch, CEO of General Electric from 1981 to 2001, died Sunday at age 84.
Under Mr. Welch, GE's market value grew from $12 billion to $410 billion. In the years since, it has dropped to $95 billion.
I met Mr. Welch around 1990, shortly before he sold the aerospace division where I worked.
