Congratulations, silvercamaro. Have a lot of fun at the audition. If you haven't been to one before you'll quickly see that the J! people take a very different attitude toward auditions than the WWTBAM people do. The J! people do their best to make it an enjoyable process for all who participate. The WWTBAM people view it as a form of casting cattle call and treat it as such.

Nothing is inherently wrong with either approach. It's just that participants will generally enjoy a J! audition more than a WWTBAM one.

And, with a little bit of luck, maybe you'll end up behind a podium.

I think SC should start checking airfares to LA and local storm warnings, after of course worrying excessively over what to wear to the audition.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

A wonderful piece of news.

Perhaps Annie and Lizbit could have a doggiesitter come to be with them instead?

Now, I must get Annie to grow skin faster so they will let her and Lizbit stay at the boarding kennel overnight. Once I explain the situation, I'm sure she will cooperate fully.
WOOHOO!!!! Glad to hear this; everyone will be rooting for you to wow them at the audition, and you will.

I just got to wondering if Annie can go to Dallas with you........

Hah. Don't you know what would happen? She would convince them to let her take the test, since she was there. She'd ace it, and then she would charm them with her smiling, big brown eyes and enchant them with stories of the times she cheated death and found romantic reasons to live through the attentions of handsome mastiffs and pit bulls met by chance in out-of-the-way veterinary clinics. Casting my application aside, they would pick Annie to be on the show, yet I would have to drive her to California.

She'd make her appearance -- and she'd make television game show history and a special place in Alex Trebek's heart in the process -- but without a thumb, she'd prove to be slow on the buzzer. One more sad story in Jeopardy! history....

* * *

Besides all that, of course, it's difficult to find a hotel that will accept a big dog. Cheered by the sight of a previously unseen sliver of new pink skin on Annie's back, I already have made a hotel reservation for myself. If she cannot be accepted for an overnight stay by the boarding facility, the vet may take her as a medical patient for "observation" during the same period. Alternatively, I am compiling a short list of trustworthy folks who -- through payment, friendship or blackmail -- might rearrange 28 hours of their lives on the dogs' behalf.

<sigh>

One more sad chapter in canine history, chalked up to the lack of an opposable thumb. First it was the doorknob, now the Jeopardy! buzzer...

Wow! I'm glad I opened this thread! I passed right by it yesterday (only seeing "Jeopardy" and not being that interested in what happened on J! the night before), then this morning I saw your name and thought "well, let's see what my pal Silver has to say"..good thing I did, or else youda thought I didn't care about this tremendous news.

You will ace whatever they throw at you, be it testing your intellect or testing your personality, and I will soon be firing up my dvd recorder to record your magnificent winning streak!

Hooray for you!!! I am rooting for you with all of my rooting powers!
