I loved him in a quiet little thing called Ulee's Gold. Nothing happened. And they played Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey" over the credits, because the movie was ostensibly about beekeeping (it was also about just showing up every day and doing your job).

The very first thought I had when I saw the thread title was Ulee’s Gold. —BobRitterskoop wrote:I loved him in a quiet little thing called Ulee's Gold. Nothing happened. Re: RIP Peter Fonda
Another great Fonda film is The Limey opposite Terence Stamp. Fonda plays a suave heavy who is essentially an alternate version of himself that allowed the Easy Rider character to decide to go after fortune and the good life (without any scruples) in later years.
And I'll always love Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry and Race with the Devil, two of the all-time great B-movies.
Yet another passing that makes me feel a lot older.

A sentence uttered by Fonda at a drug-fueled party was the inspiration for a song on the Beatles "Revolver" album:

I did not get Easy Rider, but it was not Fonda's fault.

The only movie I've seen from among those listed here thus far is the first half of Easy Rider. What I remember best about that one is my impression that as soon as Jack Nicholson joined the cast, the acting improved immensely. Probably it was just my imagination -- both Fonda and Hopper had lots of film experience by then, especially Hopper.

Last week I was reading a book about drinking and famous places of iniquity in Old Hollywood (called Of All the Gin Joints or something like that) and there was a story about Fonda, Hopper and Rip Torn working on Easy Rider (yes, RIp Torn, stick with me here...). Hopper and Torn were completely wrecked and arguing about something and I think there were fisticuffs involved with Hopper coming out on the wrong end of things.
Couple days later (might have been the next day, I don't know it's been almost a week since I read the thing!), Rip Torn finds out that his part is now being played by Jack Nicholson.
What I do remember is that while I was reading it, I thought, "Wow, Hopper has been gone for a while and now Rip Torn as well, so the only one alive to speak to that is Peter Fonda."
Yeah. Vandal and Frank are absolved, this one is on me....
