No, it is not a good idea. No, it would not be fun.

They did this on MythBusters. To get a small child off the ground took 1000s of balloons. The idea that an adult got lifted away is incredible.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

It's not incredible to me. There was a well-documented incident in 1997 that got a lot of media attention.

Maybe I should pitch the networks on a proposed new show called "Mythbusters Buster."

There is a difference between 'party baloons' mentioned in the story and seen in the Mythbusters picture and weather balloons discussed in the Snopes article.

Of course logic does say that if 1 party balloon can lift a 1 oz. bag of birdseed then 1600 balloons would lift a less than 100 lb. kid.

The same guy did an earlier flight in January. The winds were different that time, and he wound up in Argentina.

The balloons in the picture are not party balloons. He had some large diameter balloons made of heavier material than typical party balloons.

They have bigger parties in Rio.

This would be a deal breaker.

I don't have many - the few include storm chasing and a stunt like this.
