Lyrically Speaking: Humpday edition
Today's songs are all work-related. Why? You'll see...
1. Bus boy, bartender, ladies of the night
Grease monkey, ex-junkie, winner of the fight
2. You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby, let's go
3. Well, I been working in this factory for now on fifteen years
All this time, I watched my woman drownin' in a pool of tears
And I've seen a lot of good folks die who had a lot of bills to pay
I'd give the shirt right off of my back if I had the guts to say
4. Well, I should be sittin' in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin' some trash to the secretaries
Sayin', "Here, now mama, come on over here"
5. 9am on the hour hand
And she's waiting for the bell
And she's looking real pretty
Just wait for her clientele
6. There's a whistle up above
And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
7. They let you dream
Just to watch 'em shatter
You're just a step
On the boss man's ladder
8. Well-a-well and when I get the paper
I read it through and through
And my girl never fails to say
If there is any work for me
9. Some of the work gets kinda hard
This ain't no place to be
If you planned on bein' a star
10. The man in the silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old ladies' eyes
Just for fun, he says, "Get a job"
Bonus: Other than it being "humpday", why is today the perfect day for such a theme?
Double Bonus: What song (not in this quiz) had to be renamed because song #7 hit the charts a few months before the release of this other song? (10 points each for artist and changed title)
Final Bonus: What famous band did the lead singer of song #10 temporarily join in the early 1990s?

Having seen 30 or 40 of their shows during the late 80s and early 90s, I'd have to say that he never actually joined the Grateful Dead, unless by "joined" you mean "joined onstage", in which case there might be other bands that fit. He played with them at a bunch of shows, but always as a guest rather than as a member, AFAIK. There was a lot of hoping that he'd be named Brent Mydland(sp?)'s official replacement, but that ended up being Vince Welnick of the Tubes.

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Final Bonus: What famous band did the lead singer of song #10 temporarily join in the early 1990s?
I know Bruce Hornsby did some work with Don Henley. Was it The Eagles?

I know he's worked with Ricky Skaggs on bluegrass stuff but I think that's still going on.

Yesterday was "Administrative Professionals Day", formerly "Secretaries Day". Either answer was acceptable.
Double Bonus: What song (not in this quiz) had to be renamed because song #7 hit the charts a few months before the release of this other song? (10 points each for artist and changed title)
Sheena Easton's "Morning Train". It was originally going to be called "9 to 5", but had to be renamed before release to avoid confusion with Dolly Parton's song.
Final Bonus: What famous band did the lead singer of song #10 temporarily join in the early 1990s?
Hornsby toured with The Grateful Dead. He was a temporary replacement after the band's previous keyboardist (Brent Mydland) died.
