I liked this one too. Interesting, I didn't have Carlyle in mind for this. Thomas Babington Macauley was far more chauvinistic. However, it doesn't matter, because the pair works with either one.

10 MARY TYLER MOORE? AUDREY HEPBURN(?)

This is not Moore, because she was in Flirting with Disaster. Hepburn doesn't seem right - I recall a very quick death from pancreatic cancer or something. Other than that I am not much help. Someone with MS? Teri Garr starred in other films, though.
.
In that case, how about Annette Funnicello? Did n't she do Back To The Beach around '87?

We've got almost all the answers, so I Googled to confirm the question marks and to fill in the one nobody had guessed yet. DON MARTIN of Mad Magazine seems to be the originator of National Gorilla Suit Day.

I also worked out that Mountbatten anagrams to Beaumont. Francis Beaumont (from Francis Crick) rang a bell, but I couldn't remember who he was, so I Googled to discover that he was a frequently collaborator with John FLETCHER.

Rossini anagrams to Irons, and Jeremy Bentham gives us Jeremy Irons, I can't see which word he's associated with.

I think Patty Hearst goes with FREE WILL.

I've done a consolidation, which I'll post in a few minutes.

Good work on this, everyone, and kudos to SSS for figuring out the Tangredi so quickly.

All of the pairs are correct, although two are matched with the incorrect word. That will work itself out.

Two of the answers are wrong. One is a case of not giving exactly what the clue asked for, although it's in the right ballpark. The other matches every condition of the clue but one.

Carlyle I think was Scottish, so being pro-English would fit Macauley a little better.

Sarandon anagrams to Andros. Edmund Husserl plus Andros gives us Edmund Andros, who was briefly the governor of all of NEW ENGLAND in colonial times. This means Lucy Stone, if right, goes with something else. My thought is that it must be MAIDEN name, since that's what Stone was famous for - keeping her maiden name.

Loesser anagrams to Osler. William of Ockham plus that gives William Osler. Back when I applied to Johns HOPKINS medical school, I recalled in one of my essays how Osler, a professor there, once created a fake journal article on "penis captivus." Johns Hopkins did not ask me in for an interview.

Hey, for the Lagasse to Segal, wouldn't Vivienne Segal work? She was the female role in Pal Joey, which I assume means she sang "BEWITCHED, Bothered and Bewildered." So Lagasse plus Vivienne Westwood gives us that.

The Patty Hearst and Free Will thing didn't seem quite right to me. What about this: Isaac Rosenberg anagrams to Bergson. That plus Henri Landru gives us Henri Bergson, a philosopher famous for two books, Creative Evolution and Time and FREE WILL.

Back for a quick one. Barnaby Rudge was bugging me. Barnaby anagrams to Bryan. Bryan plus Ansel Adams gives us Bryan Adams, who had a hit with HEAVEN. This means my response on Irons is wrong. But he was in the movie BETRAYAL so let's just move that over to him.

Oh, and looking at that one for Barnard to Brand, I betcha that Max Planck plus that works. Max Brand was a pulp WESTERN writer back in the day. Now I really must sleep.

Heh.

Eileen Collins becomes Neil. Plus Whitney Young gives us Neil Young, who worked with CROSBY.

Adderley can become Radley. That plus Arthur Laffer gives us Arthur "BOO" Radley.

Smollett has to give us Mostel, since we've got ZERO as a clue. But Samuel was his first name, and it's been used, and I believe correctly. Sooooo... what to do?

Ah, that's because one of the other answers is not what I had in mind. Two different answers had been proposed for one of the questions, and the other one will give you ALGREN.

Must go to work, but the Guggenheim one must be the person who founded the Whitney Museum, who I know is female. So, Eli plus Whitney gives us the COTTON gin I mentioned last night.

I think that takes care of the errors Frank spotted.
