John Dale Beety
Roanoke, VA
John has reached the $5000 plateau but has burned two of his lifelines - ATA & 50:50.
$7000: If the department store Macy's had used its founder's first name instead of his last, what would it be called?
A - Mortimer's
B - Franklin's
C - Rowland's
D - Bartholomew's
What John had in his brain isn't up there and that's bad. He has no idea so he's calling his mom down as his +1. He tells her this hasn't gone as well as he had hoped. She says to think back to the time he was born. Macy's has been in business for years. John thinks
Mortimer is old-fashioned but "too cutsey"
. Mom says she doesn't think it's
Rowland or Franklin
. He makes
A
his final answer.
Answer: C (Rowland's)

I'd have answered Franklin's, confusing R.H. Macy with F.W. Woolworth. (Bored young'uns: Woolworth's was a 5 & 10¢ store.)

Thanks to the original "Miracle on 34th Street" I knew this one.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."
