New Jersey fixes Donny’s sabotage of the ACA

Democrats took over New Jersey state government after the 2017 elections. The Democrats promptly acted to fix two big ways in which Donny and his Republican enablers sabotaged the Affordable Care Act.

First, New Jersey restored the individual mandate at the state level. Second, New Jersey restored reinsurance programs that Donny had eliminated.

The results were dramatic. Insurance carriers in New Jersey were anticipating adverse selection (people would wait to get sick before buying insurance) so they were planning to raise rates over 12%. Instead, average premiums were more than 9% lower. New Jersey Democratic lawmakers saved their citizens hundreds of dollars per year that Donny and his Republican enablers tried to take away from them. No wonder Democrats just won the popular vote for the House by the biggest margin since Watergate and will,probably win 40 seats in the House despite Republican gerrymandering. —Bob
