2008 Bored Ghoul Pool, Jr.

#1 Post by NellyLunatic1980 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:01 am

I hope that our beloved longtime Ghoul Pool moderator eyegor doesn't mind, but I'm interested in reviving the Bored competition of predictions that everybody loves or loves to hate.

Of course, 2008 will be "Ghoul Pool, Jr." since it lasts eight months (May 1-December 31) rather than a full year. Because of the shortened season, a couple of changes will be made for this year only; however, I will compensate for those rule changes.

Rules that are carryovers from 2007

1. Compile a list of 20 famous people that you think will pass away between May 1, 2008-December 31, 2008.
1a. Your picks must be alive at the time that you submit your list; otherwise, you will not get credit and you will be required to pick a new name.
1b. Be sure to give a short description of each name in order to prevent any confusion. Make sure that the people are at least moderately well-known. A Wikipedia entry and/or a Google count of at least 50,000 hits should suffice.
1c. No relatives of famous people are allowed unless they've become famous on their own merits.
1d. No non-human picks.
1e. No picks under 18 years old.
1f. No death row picks.
1g. No hostages or prisoners of war.
1h. No picks solely famous for their illness(es).
1i. And, for the love of God, please no picks famous solely for being really, really, really old.

2. Rank your 20 names from 1-20, with #1 being the name that you think is most likely to pass away.

3. Submit your list to me (not to 'gor) either through the Bored PM or to my e-mail (NellyLunatic1980@aol.com) by April 30, 2008, at 11:59 PM Eastern. If you send your list through e-mail, be sure to put your Bored name in your e-mail so I know who you are.

Scoring

A person who passes away is worth points equal to 125 minus his/her age. The older a person is, the fewer points that person can score.

A bonus is awarded depending on what position on your list that person is located. #1 picks score 20 bonus points, #2 picks score 19 bonus points, on down to the #20 pick for 1 bonus point.

15 point bonus for taking the last death of 2008. This is doubled if the death occurs on December 31.

Because of the shortened GP year, there will be no bonus points for first death of the competition or first hit of each season; however, these new bonus points will be offered this year:

--If a person is picked by only three players ("trio"), those three players receive 5 bonus points.

--If a person is picked by only two players ("duet"), those two players receive 10 bonus points.

--If a person is picked by only one player ("solo"), that players receives 15 bonus points.

--If you score on two consecutive deaths, you get 5 bonus points. This becomes 10 points if the second death occurs the day after the first death or 15 points if the two deaths occur on the same day.

--If you make a streak of three consecutive deaths, you get an additional 10 bonus points. This becomes 20 points if the third death occurs the day after the second death or 30 points if the second and third deaths occur on the same day.

--Streaks of four or more mean that you should consider a job as a psychic. But since longer streaks are extremely difficult, they are worth huge points. Four in a row is worth another 20-40-60, five in a row is worth another 40-80-120, six in a row is worth another 80-160-240, etc.

--You get zero points if you personally kill any person on your list.

I'm fine w/ it.

Did anyone ever finish keeping score from last year? Since a heckuva lot of my perennial picks shuffled off their mortal coils in '07!

I'd say those lists and scores also shuffled off the mortal coil with The Ugly Bored®.
