Yanny vs laurel thing
Had not seen/heard this til today. It's obviously laurel. But does that mean my old ears are tuning out yanny frequency?
Well, then

Re: Yanny vs laurel thing
To me it was obviously yanny. Then the New York Times published a story about it with a slider that lets you adjust the frequencies. After a while, I could hear laurel. Then when I moved it back, I still heard laurel. When I moved it all the way I could hear yanny again, and when I finally put the slider back in the middle for the third time I could hear both simultaneously.Beebs52 wrote:Had not seen/heard this til today. Re: Yanny vs laurel thing
My hearing isn’t as good as it once was either. I hear “laurel” at high volume and “yanni” at lower volume. Also, the voice that says “laurel” is deeper. Darnedest thing.

Re: Yanny vs laurel thing
The pitch is what matters. Yanny is prevalent at the higher frequencies, and laurel is prevalent at the lower frequencies. --BobBeebs52 wrote:must try lower volume

That could be because your phone's speaker has a different volume response at different frequencies. Or that your ears do. --BobBeebs52 wrote:Just telling whwt happened on my phone.Bob78164 wrote:The pitch is what matters. That's the weirdest. When it was played for me by our Trivia Meister Tuesday night, I heard what sounded like "Yerry" multiple times. Yesterday on my laptop, I very clearly heard "Laurel" - have yet to hear Yanni.
Bizarro.

All I, and my wife hear is Yerry. No "L" or "N" so neither Laurel or Yanny.tlynn78 wrote:That's the weirdest. Be careful, Mr. President; you hear 'covfefe', Mueller might hear 'guilty'.
Greek New Age musician Yanni (with an 'I') has joined Team Yanny, no surprise there considering this whole Laurel/Yanny thing has led to more Google search hits for him.

Jay Aubrey Jones says its Laurel, & he should know. Its his voice. He's interviewed on NPR this morning.
Among his many credits are understudying for Old Deuteronomy in Cats on Broadway. He sung the segment out as Old Deut.

Re: Yanny vs laurel thing
I hear "yanni" and really had a hard time understanding how anyone could hear "laurel".
Yanni is heard by those who have a greater sensitivity toward higher pitches. This makes sense to me as I am really easily annoyed by the high-pitched voices of children as well as sounds made by utensils clanging against glass or ceramic (and whining, in general). I can't remember a case where a low frequency sound got on my nerves.
I don't know if that means my hearing is deficient in the low pitched frequencies, or just that high-pitched wins out.

On wherever I was on the internet when I tested on this before, all I heard was Laurel. On the show Sunday Morning last Sunday, on my Sony Trinitron TV's speakers, all I heard was Yanny.

Re: Yanny vs laurel thing
I've heard Yanni on both my TV's when I've stumbled across a mention of it. I have tried to avoid the whole thing as much as possible. I've watched too many episodes of The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Black Mirror, etc. not to have it cross my mind that it is part of some nefarious mind control scheme.
