Interesting to me that his coach didn't know of his knee pain.

My impression from the article is that he knew of the knee pain but didn't know he had decided to have the surgery until afterwards.

"Swing coach Hank Haney told the AP in phone interview he knew Woods' knee was bothering him, but was not aware of the surgery until Woods called him."

In any case it apparently was fairly tightly held news as I had not heard about it before this and while I don't listen to golf news 24/7 I do follow it to some degree.

I told Mrs. Buff more than once during the weekend that it looked to me like he was hobbling around and that something wasn't right--I'm sad it's his knee again.

He should get scoped and be 100% in a few weeks but this is the only thing I can see that will stop him from getting 19 and 83.

And, btw, how amazing is it to think that a guy with a bum knee can finish second in a major...

Looks like it, plus Immelman, Furyk, Garcia and Cabrera.

I am not sad, either. I tire of the obsessive coverage. I understand he's the best ever. But we've said so many, many times.

Jim Furyk has got to break out soon. I keep on thinking it will be him next time and it hasn't been.

I look forward to a Tigerfree month - let's see who can get some legs under them during his down time!

Pea, I would say Furyk "broke out" in 2003 or whenever he won the US Open. He was one of those considered to be good enough but had not yet won a major. Also I think he has won a dozen or so PGA events in his career. Comeback, win again, ok, but not breakout.

I'm not - it so much easier to enjoy athe tourney when he is absent.

Okay, break back out. I don't care what word is used.

I meant have him in the top 5 over and over and over. I meant be on the radar of whoever decides who gets TV coverage so he gets TV coverage. I meant becomes a household name and a golfer whose face and maybe even that funky swing gets known by more than just a few people who don't really follow golf.

He is fun to watch, more people ought to have the chance.

Maybe it is a guy thing. Or maybe just a me thing!

When referring to myself "bothering me" means it is now painful and beginning to interfere with desired activities. And that usually means fairly painful. I have lots of aches and pains that I play through and don't bother to get checked out. Only when it gets to the point that it is really painful that I think of it as bothering me.

Some people employ understatement regularly.

Some don't.
I am about 25% sure of this.
