I don't listen to alarmist weather reports, so I've never heard of a bomb cyclone. Is it as bad as snowmageddon or snowpocalypse? Has the Weather Channel given it a name?

"Bomb" is an actual meteorological term for a very rapidly strengthening low pressure system. It existed in the 90's when I was majoring in meteorology, and I even drew an image of a bomb on one of the forecast maps to illustrate one that popped up on my discussion day...
I agree with you that national news weather reporting has gotten very ridiculous, though....
