RIP Georgia Dome
I'm off this week, and I wouldn't have been at work at 7:30 in any event (our offices overlook Centennial Olympic Park, with a good view of the top half of the Dome), but I did get to see it go down for the count with all the local channels covering it. Actually, four panels, two on each side of the Dome, did not go down with the rest of the building but were left standing like the remaining teeth of someone with very bad dental hygiene. The Dome was only about 80 feet away from Mercedes Benz Stadium, new home of the Falcons, so they had to do some precision work here. The expression "cloud of dust" was quite accurate, since an enormous dust cloud arose afterwards for about 15 minutes or so (I pity those in the way of that dust cloud, either for traffic or simple breathing).

And yet the Astrodome still stands, unused for 15 years, an eye-sore reminding us everyday that "yes, we built something unique". I've got postcards to help remember. I wish they'd tear it down.

Re: RIP Georgia Dome
I watched the implosion this morning.
Or, more precisely, I saw the roof implode, as a MARTA bus parked in front of the camera at the key moment. (I'm not sure what your video shows, since it won't play at the office).
I hope there were other angles of the implosion that can be played later on.

That makes it the second worst collapse in Georgia sports lore during the last twelve months.

Is A-Dome Park no longer being discussed?

Your quote caused some of my New Orleans friends to laugh uproariously.Vandal wrote:That makes it the second worst collapse in Georgia sports lore during the last twelve months.

Well, at least they got most of the Georgia Dome down, unlike what just happened with the Pontiac Silverdome:

Apparently someone hit Shift-8 in the formulation where they should have hit Shift-6.silverscreenselect wrote:Well, at least they got most of the Georgia Dome down, unlike what just happened with the Pontiac Silverdome:
