3) fake?
if 1, why would he do this? What is the purpose of pre-releasing?
If 2, good thing he was fired. He has a problem keeping secrets.

If 3,
Leaking this unclassified document doesn't prove a damn thing about his competence. But the real question is whether Donny's motive for firing him was the Russia investigation. And we already have the answer to that question from Donny's own mouth.
News broke yesterday that he also asked Dan Coats (the Director of National Intelligence) and Mike Pompey (the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency) to get the FBI to stop its investigation. This is exactly what was going to get Nixon impeached and what forced him to resign.
This isn't a former President chatting about grandchildren on the tarmac after a chance meeting. This is the sitting President of the United States expressly asking government officials to shut down a criminal investigation. But the Republicans who are running Congress don't seem to care. We'll see whether enough Congressional Republicans get to keep their jobs to enable them to continue shielding Donny from the consequences of his actions. --Bob

Re: Comey fired
It turns out I was mistaken. The release was authorized by Comey. He did so for two obvious reasons. First, he wanted senators to be able to prepare better questions instead of having to respond on the fly. Second, he wanted to move the news cycle off Donny's attempt to distract it by identifying his nominee for Director of the FBI.Bob78164 wrote:Leaked. Comey has already testified that he prepared memoranda of his conversations with Donny because he was concerned that Donny might lie about them. I'm glad he's a quick study. --Bob

This is a pretty good analysis explaining how Comey's testimony under oath demonstrates that Donny is guilty of both a crime (obstruction of justice) and an impeachable offense (abuse of power). No wonder he demands personal loyalty from law enforcement.

Re: Comey fired
There's no requirement that the Special Prosecutor rush to an indictment or that Congress rush to impeach (not that that's likely to happen unless or until the Democrats regain a majority). Here's the Watergate timeline for those who may have forgotten.
June 17, 1972 - Break-in occurs; burglars, Hunt, and Liddy arrested within days.
October 1972 - Washington Post first reports on the larger cover-up.
April 30, 1973 - Haldeman, Ehrlichman resign; Dean fired.
May 17, 1973 - Watergate televised hearings begin.
May 19, 1973 - Archibald Cox appointed special prosecutor.
July 13, 1973 - White House reveals existence of tapes.
October 20, 1973 - Cox fired (Jaworski appointed 10 days later as replacement)
November 17, 1973 - Nixon delivers "I am not a crook" speech
January 28, 1974 - Nixon aide Herbert Porter pleads guilty to perjury
February 25, 1974 - Nixon personal attorney Herbert Kalmbach pleads guilty to campaign violations.
March 4, 1974 - Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, Colson and others indicted; Nixon named unindicted co-conspirator.
April 16, 1974 - Jaworski subpoenas tapes.
May 9, 1974 - Impeachment hearings begin.
June 15, 1974 - All the President's Men published
July 24, 1974 - Supreme Court orders Nixon to turn over tapes
August 8, 1974 - Nixon resigns
January 1, 1975 - Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell convicted.
To sum up, the first special prosecutor was named 11 months after the breakin, and the key indictments came nearly two years after the breakin.
So, there's still a lot of time for this investigation to play out.

Bob's text isn't what Comey said at the hearing. It's a preliminary statement that Comey wanted to be made public, and the committee agreed, so it's not a leak.BackInTex wrote:Is/was thisBob78164 wrote:This will be Director Comey's opening statement at tomorrow's hearing. --Bob

Re: Comey fired
The President of the United States directly asked the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency to halt an FBI investigation into his Administration. That is exactly what forced Nixon to resign. Moreover, he told the Director of the FBI to end the investigation if he wanted to keep his job. That's obstruction of justice.BackInTex wrote:LOL. Don't believe the latter statement? Donny emptied the room before he had the key conversation with Director Comey. That's consciousness of guilt, demonstrating the corrupt motive necessary to prove obstruction. He asked Comey if he liked his job and wanted to keep it (after already telling Comey that he would get to keep his job). Then he told Comey that he "hoped" Comey could see his way clear to ending the investigation into Flynn. Finally, of course, Donny has admitted on camera that he did in fact fire Comey because Comey wouldn't end the investigation into his Administration.
The last time I saw the word "hope" used that way, the context was: "Nice store you got there. Sure hope no one burns it down." Donny was blatantly threatening Comey, and when Comey didn't back down, Donny followed through on his threat.
But Republicans in Congress have decided that their party is more important than their country, so I have given up expecting them to actually do something about it. That leaves it up to the American people to take away from them the power they have so amply demonstrated that they do not deserve. So we've got a lot of work to do in the next year and a half. --Bob

We know what was said because the former Director of the FBI told us what was said. Under oath. We don't even have a denial from Donny. Not that it would matter, since Donny has proven himself, over and over again, to be a liar concerning matters large and small.

I understand that Donny claims that Comey's testimony about their meetings was false. So be it. That means the obvious next step is for Donny to appear before the Committee and testify under oath about his version of the meetings. And I'm sure he'll volunteer to do that right after he releases his tax returns. --Bob
