A 20 year anniversary

Today is the 20th anniversary of when I bought stock in a little company called Amazon.com.

My ROI is 67,015.33%!
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Bored gurus may recall a conversation I had a few years back with BIT in which we debated the merits and value of Amazon as a company. He took the position that their quarterly profits weren't as high as they should be, while I noted the way the company was expanding into hitherto unknown realms for any retailer.

I'm curious what the stock price was then and now.

I bought it at $18 and a few cents per share. It split 2:1, 3:1 and 2.1 in the first couple of years so I have 12 times the number of shares. I remember our conversation. It was around 400 then.

It closed at 1,006.73 today.

That's about a 38% annual return. Pretty good if you can keep that going for 20 years.

Wrong, as usual. All I meant was that ROI cannot be calculated until there is a return. There is no return until there is a sale.

Nope, I have a stop loss order in just in case, but I'm not planning on selling until I'm dead. :)
