This is an ultra-liberal school (even in comparison with your average college, where conservative speech is automatically branded as hate speech) just over the hill from where I live.

If you haven't seen it on the MSM, I am not surprised. In short, they have a tradition there called 'Day of Absence', where "people of color" leave the campus for a day, illustrating their importance. This year, however, they 'requested' that all white people leave the campus instead. One faculty member objected, so the students decided to take over the campus. This is the kind of education we taxpayers are paying for.

This is the left eating the left. My highlight is the campus president starting off his address to the protesters “I'm George Bridges, I use he/him pronouns.”.

I wish they had White Absence Day when I was in college. I would have loved a free day without classes.

I have a hard time understanding a push for equality by highlighting and labeling all those differences that we are trying to overcome.

I did not vote for Obama because I did not agree with his politics, but I was proud and hopeful that we elected a President who was a person of color. (As an aside, why do I have to think for several moments to come up with a 'safe' way to refer to his race?) I thought we, as a nation, had made a significant step towards a colorblind society.

Wrong. It's so disheartening to see how far we have regressed in racial relations since Obama was elected. This college campus, less than a mile from where I live, decided that it was a good, progressive, inclusive idea to ask (require) all white people to leave the campus. And this kind of thing is happening at college campuses all over the country. Free speech is celebrated, except if it is speech that is not what they want to hear. Safe spaces. Safe from what? Segregation is returning but in reverse. What are they teaching the next generation?

It's funny how I never heard a diatribe from you about all the anti-Obama racist bile spewing out from the right wingers over the eight years of his Presidency. But I'm glad that you've finally become more liberal minded and tolerant just when your downtrodden right wing friends need it the most, suffering so at the hands of those who have no power in government whatsoever.

And if you want to see a bastion of tolerance, check out Liberty University. It's probably been around a lot longer than Evergreen State.

SSS, let me ask you a question. Do the scumbags who cover their faces and dress in black and burn cars, vandalize buildings and spew bile on the left because they don't want to hear someone speak represent all liberals or democrats? Does the guy in Portland who killed 2 people represent all Bernie Sanders supporters? Do the radical islamic terrorists who behead people, burn people alive and exceute children represent all Muslims?

I assume your answer to all those questions is no. So why do you assume the small fraction of people who spewed 'racist bile' at Obama represent me or any other conservatives? Selective outrage?

I believe in the collective mind of the left (from what I've seen) there are several (if not all) prominent conservatives or republicans who are assumed to be 'racists'. For a couple, I'd say Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump. I always hear them referred to as racists by leftists. Yet I've never, myself, heard them say or do anything that I would think label as 'racist'. And the people that call them racists never say exactly why they think that, but call them that anyway. Can you tell me why you believe Rush Limbaugh hates anyone who is not of his race (with examples). Can you do the same for Donald Trump?

I did. Actually, I remember it. He was using the term because a leftist columnist used it, and used it to mock the racism of the left. Did you bother to research, or is it just part of the narrative you go by?
He also predicted he would 'own' the phrase, because the left would use it the way you are.

Wikipedia:
In March 2007, American critic David Ehrenstein used the title "Obama the 'Magic Negro'" for an editorial he wrote for the Los Angeles Times, in which he described Barack Obama's image in white American culture: "He's there to assuage white 'guilt' (i.e., the minimal discomfort they feel) over the role of slavery and racial segregation in American history, while replacing stereotypes of a dangerous, highly sexualized black man with a benign figure for whom interracial sexual congress holds no interest ... The only mud that momentarily stuck was criticism (white and black alike) concerning Obama's alleged 'inauthenticty', as compared to such sterling examples of "genuine" blackness as Al Sharpton and Snoop Dogg. ... Obama's fame right now has little to do with his political record ... Like a comic-book superhero, Obama is there to help, out of the sheer goodness of a heart we need not know or understand. For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes. If he were real, white America couldn't project all its fantasies of curative black benevolence on him."[14]

Rush Limbaugh began discussing Ehrenstein's op ed on the day it was published. He cast Ehrenstein's column as criticizing Obama himself for not being authentic or black enough: "The problem, Ehrenstein says, is he's not real. Al Sharpton's real, Snoop Dogg is real, but Barack Obama is not real. He's just there to assuage white guilt. In other words, the only reason Obama is anywhere is because whites are willing to support him because they feel so guilty over slavery." He described the column as an example of the "racism of the left". He said, "The term 'Magic Negro' has been thrown into the political presidential race in the mix for 2008" and said he would "own" the term by the end of the week. He briefly sang the words "Barack the magic negro" to the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon".[15][16] Shortly after that Paul Shanklin recorded a song about Barack the Magic Negro set to that same tune, which Limbaugh played numerous times throughout the 2008 presidential election season.[17]

Don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia. Limbaugh misconstrued, either innocently or conveniently, the meaning of Ehrenstein's column as an excuse to make another gratuitous slur against blacks in general and Obama in particular, knowing full well that his supporters, who probably never heard the trope used in cinematic references where it originated, would never understand that point but would, instead, think it was simply a funny way of referring to a black man without actually using the ultimate funny way of describing him, namely the N-word. And many of his supporters, like you, chose to latch onto this as some sort of proof that Limbaugh isn't a bigot.

The difference between right and left racism is that those on the left create a mythical figure (like Michael Clarke Duncan in The Green Mile) who helps assuage their guilt feelings. Those on the right call Obama a funny sounding name because it's a convenient way of putting him down.

Really? So instead of using that phrase as he explained it, you KNOW that he innocently or intentionally misconstrued it to make 'another' slur against blacks in general. (Of Course you know what is in the mind of everyone). Pretty slick, ain't he? Even though every time he used the phrase he gave it correct attribution? (and it wasn't a cinematic reference, it was a reference to an article in the LA Times.) And we who understood it to show how bigoted the left is were just bamboozled by him to feed our own internal hatred? We just didn't understand....

First of all, I think you're full of sh*t.
Second of all, you mentioned that it was 'another'. That sounds like he does it all the time. If he's that much of an extreme bigot, there must be hundreds of these questionable incidents in his decades of being on the radio. There should even be one or two incidents where he actually called people the N-Word directly or did some other thing that can't be mistaken for anything other than race hatred. Please let me know when you find one.
Third of all, Tell me what instance of racial hatred is the cause of so many people believing that Trump is a racist?
Fourth of all, would you define to me exactly what you think a racist is?

In breaking news, they closed the Evergreen Campus today based on a threat to the campus called into 911.

The spokesman gave no details, but in the general spirit of the media, after many questions about who called in the threat, which the spokeswoman repeatedly responded that she didn't know, one intrepid reporter had to ask if it was 'white supremacists' who called it in. I guess the reporter expected the spokeswoman to say, 'well I have said we don't know who called it in, but it was probably white supremacists or some other right-wing group'. Either that or the reporter just had to get that in so she could use those two words in her report, as the report in the link above did. Just had to get that in, I guess. But we all know the press, especially here in Washington, has no narrative. They just want to report the facts. It wasn't the Russians or aliens from Uranus either.

Limbaugh (there are plenty more posts like this one): https://newsone.com/16051/top-10-racist ... gh-quotes/

Trump (there are plenty more examples as well): http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/

Limbaugh is smart enough to know not to use the N-word on the air, although he comes close with some of his comments.

Credible sources, please. In context, please. We've all seen these and they're just like the first example. Media Matters or some other racket taking a quote out of context and putting their own spin on it. I can assure you, if I ever heard Rush, or anyone else, be fragrantly racist, that would be it for me. Not speaking in politically correct terms is not racism.

And there's nothing there for Trump, but I'm sure it's the same thing. Nothing I saw first hand on his campaign was racist. It was not politically correct, sometimes stupid, sometimes crude, but not racist.

Flock, I don't have time to search and put up every single racist example of what Trump or Limbaugh has done, only to have you denigrate the source (like the Chicago Tribune) or insist that things are taken out of context or merely "politically incorrect." Frankly, you can choose to characterize just about anything as merely politically incorrect, no matter how prejudiced or offensive or flat out wrong it is. But you would just keep making excuses for Limbaugh and Trump because in your view, right wingers are being unfairly criticized as being racist.

I was leaving work when I sent out that last post so I didn't have a chance to chase everything down, but there are literally dozens of examples that fly off the pages on Google. You once told me that you didn't listen to Limbaugh or Hannity, and, for your sake, I hope that's true. Because if you do listen to him, you're likely to go broke buying every silly product he peddles because you believe what he tells you.

Yeah, SSS, we're all using code words. We all are secret racists. We only talk about it among ourselves. I'll send you the codebook, but don't tell anybody I sent it to you. We are also in Hillary's vast right-wing conspiracy. She blames us for her loss.

There is a small section of our society that are legitimate (I don't use that word as meaning acceptable) racists. They represent conservatives as much as the rioting anarchists on the left represent you. But they are there. And they are given attention that is way out of proportion to their numbers for what I believe are political reasons. And people like you brand people who say things that you disagree with or in a way you don't like as racists for the same reason.
