Has it really been almost 10 years?

#1 Post by eyégor » Wed May 31, 2017 2:43 pm

We haven't had to pack our bags and move for a almost 116 months, 504 and a half weeks, 3,531 days.

Today was the first time I was able to spend any time on the Bored in a loooonnngg time. With ever changing work locations, my access was severely limited for over 4 years. Indeed, I looked back at old posts to see that while at the last two locations, I managed to only post here a total of 6 times. And BobJuch said I wasn't even a regular poster when we first started. I devolved even below lurker status. I have been able to show up occasionally while getting acclimated to my latest location, but today was the first one since forever ago that I really was able to waste some time here.

I decided to take a look back at how this all began in October 2007. Wow! did I piss some people off! I still stand by my ex parte decision to usurp the power and unilaterally declare that this was our new home. (sorry Bobs). Given the abandonment of our little group by Gary Love and the sinking of the TUB, we were in dire straights. Many thanks to Dave for giving us a place where we could hang our hat and not have to worry about eviction, and doing so before we splintered into so many groups that reunification would be impossible.

Although we seem more focused on politics these days, we were a feisty group back then. Seeing the interplay on those first few pages of posts made me nostalgic. Devil Kitty being Devil Kitty, mini stepping on beast's toes, Beebs being a pain in my ass etc. etc. etc. I would suggest that everyone click on the 990 up in the right hand corner and take a trip down memory lane. Just ignore the half dozen threads that are dated 1969. I don't know WTF happened there.

And one more thing. Don't dwell on the loss of so many good friends. Just be happy that we got to spend so many years with them on this medium designed to be so temporary and fleeting. The resilience of this community may be unique on the internet. Revel in the joy in that.

So October 8, 2017, will be the 10th birthday of the Raspberry Bored. Also, we're approaching 1,000 pages of threads in the main forum. It'll be interesting to predict the exact date that page 1,000 is created. Since we average about one new page every two weeks, the two events might occur pretty close to each other.

I'm glad you cleared that up. I'm pretty sure Beebs is older than 10. --Bob

She's 10 in base 64. Or in base [whatever age she is]. Right?
