Help Wanted: Sports Trivia

I need help identifying a long-ago basketball player:

I know he started for the Florida Gators in 1987.
I know he wore #33.

I don't know his name.

Significance: He was the first player to appear in CBS's first-ever "One Shining Moment" montage.

Who is he?
We have enough youth. How about a fountain of smart?
