Lyrically Speaking: A is for Artist, B is for Band

#1 Post by astrnomr » Wed Apr 09, 2008 7:33 am

For today's theme, all of the songs below are by either an artist whose last name begins with a particular letter or a band whose name starts with that same letter. I've picked out a very special letter today for a special person.

1. You won't hear me, but you'll feel me
Without warning, somethings dawning, listen
Then within your senses
You'll know you're defenseless

2. Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

3. Her young face was like that of an angel
Her long legs were tanned and brown
Better keep your eyes on the road, son
Better slow this vehicle down

4. Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile

5. You can see the summit, but you can't reach it
It's the last piece of the puzzle, but you just can't make it fit
Doctor says you're cured, but you still feel the pain
Aspirations in the clouds, but your hopes go down the drain

6. I seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens
But I know what I'm needing, and I don't want to waste more time

7. Downpour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean, I'm losing control
Dark sky all around
I can't feel my feet touching the ground

8. Hey, Jack, it's a fact they're talkin' in town
I turn my back, and you're messin' around
I'm not really jealous, don't like lookin' like a clown

9. Look over there! (Where?)
Here comes Jeanie with her new boyfriend
They say that looks don't count for much
If so, there goes your proof

10. He sees his children jumping off
At the stations, one by one
His woman and his best friend
In bed and having fun

Bonus: Identify the letter of the day.

Double Bonus: Song #8 was recently made over (same music, different lyrics) as the theme song for a TV show that appears weekly from late summer through early winter. Who sings it and what is the show? (10 points each)

Final Bonus: What is the real (birth) name of the artist who sings song #2?

Oh, boy! Since I don't know any of the lyrics or artists, I have a 1 in 26 chance of getting the bonus!

I'll guess "P". :)

Tiny Dancer - Elton John (How many people you think are gonna answer Levon for this one? I think several did when I used this earlier in the year... though I shouldn't speak since I got Dirty Deeds mixed up with TNT already this month... and I got that one right when fanny used it.... go figure)

3. Her young face was like that of an angel
Her long legs were tanned and brown
Better keep your eyes on the road, son
Better slow this vehicle down

4. Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Faithfully - Journey (Def Leppard's "Animal" was playing on VH1C was I first read this clue, and since it also mentions a circus, I couldn't get it out of my mind to think of what one this was! I knew I knew it, though....)

5. You can see the summit, but you can't reach it
It's the last piece of the puzzle, but you just can't make it fit
Doctor says you're cured, but you still feel the pain
Aspirations in the clouds, but your hopes go down the drain
No One Is To Blame - Howard Jones

6. I seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens
But I know what I'm needing, and I don't want to waste more time

7. Downpour on my soul

8. Hey, Jack, it's a fact they're talkin' in town

I Hate Myself For Loving You - Joan Jett

9. Look over there! (Where?)

They say that looks don't count for much
If so, there goes your proof
Is She Really Going Out With Him - Joe Jackson

10. He sees his children jumping off
At the stations, one by one
His woman and his best friend
In bed and having fun
Sounds familiar...

Bonus: Identify the letter of the day. - J

Double Bonus: Song #8 was recently made over (same music, different lyrics) as the theme song for a TV show that appears weekly from late summer through early winter. Who sings it and what is the show? (10 points each) - Sunday Night Football on NBC, done by Pink. Blech-o-rama

Pink was called upon to convert it into the theme song for NBC's "Sunday Night Football". I thought it was ironic that they would use the tune from "I Hate Myself for Loving You" for this.

I gave half credit for "Turbo" on #1, and Bob was oh so close with his blanket WAG. Looks like he picked the wrong half for his 50/50 guess.
