I think the Jill Ireland thing was a coincidence because, if we can accept St. John as a derivative of St. John's, then

I can't come up with a Michael Jordan match, but I may have found a sports match that satisfies the odd "single" SSS says is in this puzzle somewhere.....
Jim Everett may pair with himself to make Jim Rome. The two had an infamous showdown a couple decades ago that me and Vandal still honor in the Merry Man parade every year....

72. Jim Everett + ???? = Chad Everett
I bet this is here for Jim Everett's famous altercation with TV reporter Jim ROME.

I'm now convinced that we are looking only for cities. All the ones we've found so far have been capitals, but that may just be because that's all we've been looking for.littlebeast13 wrote:I can't come up with a Michael Jordan match, but I may have found a sports match that satisfies the odd "single" SSS says is in this puzzle somewhere.....

Second use of David Tennant, so that's one less David to choose from for the partial.

Somewhere, there has to be a Washington. I don't see anyone who matches with George Washington. And, though we do have a Fredi, I don't see anybody who matches with Fredi Washington, either.

QuartetIt's been a while, but I'm back with another SSS puzzle. First, you must identify the famous people described in the 104 clues below. Then, group them together to form 48 pairs, one single, one triple, and one quartet according to a Tangredi which you must figure out. Unlike some of my puzzles, there is no significance whatsoever to the number of clues, or pairings in the puzzle. However, one of the answers, if you look at it the right way, could give you a clue to the Tangredi. Once you figure out the Tangredi, you'll probably need to think outside the box to figure out some of the pairings (and this sentence isn't a clue either).

Somewhere, there has to be a Washington. I don't see anyone who matches with George Washington. And, though we do have a Fredi, I don't see anybody who matches with Fredi Washington, either.

Well, then, one of the David Tennant matches is wrong. I'm going to assume it's the Victoria Tennant match, since there are a lot more possibilities for Victoria.silverscreenselect wrote:And one more note. Nobody is used more than once. That narrows down our partial to David Lander, David Tennant, or David Ortiz.

Okay, it looks like spelling variations are permissible, because this works too well. (And SSS did counsel us to think outside the box):
6. Eric Lindros + 91. Joe South = Eric Berne (Bern)
Games People Play.....
Keep an eye out, then, for a Minsk(y).

Re: SSS Game
Is there a Lieutenant in the puzzle? Patrick McGoohan makes me think of Columbo, which just happens to be (with a slight spelling variation) the capital of Sri Lanka. I know SSS was a fan of the series as well...

I did use variations when I could find some verification that the variation had been used in reference to the city. So, I have seen Berne as an alternate spelling for Bern. But I tried to use the exact preferred spelling whenever possible. I also read that the book title (it was a best seller in the mid-60's) helped inspire Joe South to write the song.

Re: SSS Game
Since variant spellings are allowed on the cities, I remembered that Simon Ammann was a more recent ski jumping champion. Ammann sounds like the capital of Jordan. Since there is really no other way that Matti Nykanen could fit into this puzzle, this has to be a correct match.
20. Simon Le Bon + Amman = Simon Ammann, with 50. Matti Nykanen
20. Simon Le Bon + Amman = Simon Ammann, with 50. Matti Nykanen

Re: SSS Game
A little cheating here. I looked up the Minsky brothers, of burlesque fame, and what did I find? One of the brothers was named Morton - and he co-wrote a history of Minsky's with .... wait for it ... Milt Machlin.
38. Morton Sobell + 17. Milt Machlin = Morton Minsky (Minsk)
I'm kind of surprised Gypsy Rose Lee wasn't used as the match for this one.
