Lyrics Quiz: Tuesdays Titles

#1 Post by astrnomr » Tue Apr 08, 2008 6:39 am

On future Tuesdays, I will probably give you a theme... but not today. You'll have to figure it out. However, unless you're playing this while hiding under a rock, you might even figure it out without guessing a single song correctly as the theme is contained in the song titles, the artists, and even the lyrics I quoted below.

1. It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

2. They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you

3. So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

4. Don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

5. Football, baseball, basketball games
Drinkin’ bear, kickin’ ass and takin’ down names
With the top down, get-a-round, shootin’ the line
Summer is here and Johnny’s feelin’ fine

6. Once in your life you find her
Someone that turns your heart around
And next thing you know you're closing down the town

7. My basketball coach he done kicked me off the team
For wearing high heeled sneakers and acting like a queen
(Ha ha ha ha ha)

8. In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school

9. I was lying there thinking 'bout basketball
Trying not to lose my mind
My baby came to help and I let out a yell
She grabbed me from behind

10. And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through

Bonus: Identify today's theme.

Double Bonus: This should be super-easy. Songs #1 and #6 were theme songs for movies. Name the movies. (10 points each.)

Final Bonus: The "featured" artist on #7 was really a combination of two different artists. Name them. (10 points each.)

Just a suggestion, but since you have the franchise this month, you should really use "Lyrically Speaking" in the subject line as the name of the game. When I get done answering this, I'll even give you your cool new title (It won't be the same on mini has.... :P )

1. It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

2. They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
Walkin' in Memphis - Mark Cohen

3. So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

4. Don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the Wind - Kansas

Drinkin’ bear, kickin’ ass and takin’ down names
With the top down, get-a-round, shootin’ the line

7. My basketball coach he done kicked me off the team

9. I was lying there thinking 'bout basketball

10. And bad mistakes

We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions - Queen

Bonus: Identify today's theme. - Maybe it's Basketball, as it seems to be mentioned about 100 times in the lyrics and the other songs seem to reference teams in the Final Four....

Double Bonus: This should be super-easy. Songs #1 and #6 were theme songs for movies. Name the movies. (10 points each.) - Maybe it's easy if you know the songs....

Final Bonus: The "featured" artist on #7 was really a combination of two different artists. Name them. (10 points each.) - George Michael and Elton John (Just to make everyone cringe...)

Will it confuse you if I switch to my real name? Or should I answer as Deaf Mini from now on?

1. It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

The Rose, Bette Midler

2. They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you

Very Familiar

3. So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

Eye of the Tiger, Survivor?

4. Don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

Dust in the Wind, Kansas

5. Football, baseball, basketball games
Drinkin’ bear, kickin’ ass and takin’ down names
With the top down, get-a-round, shootin’ the line
Summer is here and Johnny’s feelin’ fine

Familiar!

6. Once in your life you find her
Someone that turns your heart around
And next thing you know you're closing down the town

Between the Moon and New York City, Christopher Cross

7. My basketball coach he done kicked me off the team
For wearing high heeled sneakers and acting like a queen
(Ha ha ha ha ha)

Was this called Earache, My Eye? Cheech & Chong!! This brings back memories!

8. In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school

Nope, but from the Philadelphia reference I'll say it's by Will Smith

9. I was lying there thinking 'bout basketball
Trying not to lose my mind
My baby came to help and I let out a yell
She grabbed me from behind

Nope

10. And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through

We are the Champions, Queen

Bonus: Identify today's theme.

With all the basketball references, and Kansas and Tigers, I'll say you're thinking about the NCAA tournament, or specifically last night's final game?

Double Bonus: This should be super-easy. Songs #1 and #6 were theme songs for movies. Name the movies. (10 points each.)

#1 was (duh) The Rose, and #6 was from Arthur

Final Bonus: The "featured" artist on #7 was really a combination of two different artists. Name them. (10 points each.)

You mean their whole names? Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong? Or was there someone else with them, in which case I have no idea...

Queen - We Are the Champions

Bonus: Identify today's theme.
The NCAA basketball championship. There was even a hint right in the subject line -- titles. In case you missed it, the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Memphis Tigers in overtime. Memphis was led by Derrick Rose (song 1), while the high scorer for Kansas was Darrell Arthur (song 6).

Double Bonus: This should be super-easy. Songs #1 and #6 were theme songs for movies. Name the movies. (10 points each.)
"The Rose" and "Arthur". If you identified the songs, these were no-brainers.

Final Bonus: The "featured" artist on #7 was really a combination of two different artists. Name them. (10 points each.)
The "feature" artist was "Alice Bowie", a fictitious merger of Alice Cooper and David Bowie.

Spoiler
1. The Rose/Bette Midler

4. Dust In The Wind/Kansas

10.. Heh heh heh. I could almost fit this into "My Way/Sinatra".

1. Is in fact the theme from the "Bette Midler even giving it the old college try with decent acting is no Janis Joplin" movie. No, it was called "The Rose".
