Lyrically Speaking - 2/17/17

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:49 am

Well, this is it.... the finale of the 2017 LSWE! It isn't quite the showstopper I would always make up for those epic 10 week contests back in the good old days. In fact, it's pretty much the same thing I've thrown out for the last game in each of these truncated seasons. I flipped around the channels of classic rock and pop music on Music Choice last night and wrote down 25 of the songs that were playing. These songs pretty much span the entire rock and roll era... though as I've done all year, I made sure to hit my target demographic with plenty of old fogey songs. Yes, I called you all old... and I'll whack you with my cane if you've got a problem with it!

I hope you've enjoyed the contest, and I look forward to serving you more awful earworms next winter!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. To have a girl like her
Is truly a dream come true
Out of all the fellas in the world
She belongs to you

2. My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV

3. Well, I think of that girl from time to time
I call her up when I got a dime
I say, "Hello, baby"
She say, "Ain't you cool"

4. In your arms
I feel so safe and so secure
Every day is such a perfect day
To spend alone with you

5. Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip with me

6. That's no reason why I
Can't give him all my love
He is always good to me
Always treats me tenderly

7. I go to parties sometimes until four
It's hard to leave when you can't find the door

8. In the time of chimpanzees
I was a monkey
Butane in my veins
So I'm out to cut the junkie

9. She took my heart
And she took my money
She must have slipped me a sleepin' pill

10. A thousand skeptic hands
Won't keep us from the things we plan
Unless we're clinging to the things we prize

11. Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there

12. Lay a whisper on my pillow
Leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely, is there a silence
In the bedroom and all around

13. Yeah, my girl, she's one too
She'll go and get her a skirt
Stick it under her shirt
She grabbed a razor for me

14. Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue

15. Sometimes you're crazy
And you wonder why
I'm such a baby
Cause the Dolphins make me cry

16. Oh, my child, you'll never know
Just what you mean to me
Oh, my child, you got so much
You're gonna take away my energy

17. Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted

18. I never thought it would happen
I feel quite the same
I don't want to hurt you anymore
I never knew it would work out

19. Elegance in eloquence
For sale or rent or hire
Should I say yes
I match his best
Then I would be a liar

20. There`s a whole generation
With a new explanation
People in motion
People in motion

21. You really should accept
This time he's gone for good
He'll never come back now
Even though he said he would

22. But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new

23. And I make her smile, it's like a drug for you
Do ever what you want to do coming over you
Keep on smiling what we go through
One stop to the rhythm that divides you

24. Yo! It's about that time
To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme
I'm a get mine so get yours
I wanna see sweat comin' out your pores

25. We just want to dance here
Someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible
Write us off the page

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that you've heard recently that hasn't appeared in an LSWE game this year.

Image Bonus: As hard as it may be to believe, 2017 marked the LSWE's 10th year of entertaining the Bored during the winter months. If you could spare no expense and get the LSWE a fitting 10th anniversary gift, show me what it would be.

Thanks, as always, for the games, LB!!

Spoiler

Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)-The Temptations

2. My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV

57 Channels And Trump's On Every One (and Don't Get Me Started on Those Obnoxious Target Commercials)-The Nielsen Family

3. Well, I think of that girl from time to time
I call her up when I got a dime
I say, "Hello, baby"
She say, "Ain't you cool"

Spiders And Snakes-Jim Stafford

4. In your arms
I feel so safe and so secure
Every day is such a perfect day
To spend alone with you

Follow You Follow Me-Genesis

5. Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip with me

Low Rider-War

6. That's no reason why I
Can't give him all my love
He is always good to me
Always treats me tenderly

He's A Rebel-The Crystals

7. I go to parties sometimes until four
It's hard to leave when you can't find the door

Life's Been Good-Joe Walsh

8. In the time of chimpanzees
I was a monkey
Butane in my veins
So I'm out to cut the junkie

My guess is that the lyricist here is either not aware that chimps are not, in fact, monkeys, rather they are apes, or else is stating that, when most around were chimps, he or she was a monkey. The Butane and Junkie references would seem to imply a drug habit, a "monkey" on his or her back, and..........oh yeah, you want the title and artist.

I don't know.

9. She took my heart
And she took my money
She must have slipped me a sleepin' pill

Or She Made Me Watch "The English Patient"-zzzzzzzzzz

10. A thousand skeptic hands
Won't keep us from the things we plan
Unless we're clinging to the things we prize

Grab 'em By The...Well, You know-The Leaked Conversations

11. Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there

Manic Monday-The Bangles

12. Lay a whisper on my pillow
Leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely, is there a silence
In the bedroom and all around

Who Let The Dogs Out-Billie & The Blackouts

13. Yeah, my girl, she's one too
She'll go and get her a skirt
Stick it under her shirt
She grabbed a razor for me

Been Caught Stealing-Jane's Addiction

14. Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers,

Compilation CD I had on last night had Would I Lie To You by The Eurythmics on it, I'll use that.

Well, the traditional tenth anniversary gift is tin, so....

Okay, I was trying to think of this one for yesterday's Krox theme (the "tiny" theme in which I scored so uncharacteristically well and still came in last for the day) but I didn't have the title right until I checked it out on YouTube. But since I have heard it recently, I can use the song now.

I don't like spiders and snakes
But that ain't what it takes
To love me like I want to be loved by you.

Image Bonus: As hard as it may be to believe, 2017 marked the LSWE's 10th year of entertaining the Bored during the winter months. If you could spare no expense and get the LSWE a fitting 10th anniversary gift, show me what it would be.

Wow... these gifts are all wonderful! Thanks everyone! And please, leave the receipts on my desk over there. I'm giving the final IBB to Confessor for sparing no expense to rebuild the old Busch Stadium for me. Please make sure the Astroturf is included...

melly gets 2 JJC points for the $12,500 squirrel (And shipping better damn well be complimentary for that much jack!)

Esto gets 3 JJC points for a comfy squirrel tin...

And as per longstanding LSWE tradition, everyone who thanked me in some way for running the contest this year got an additional 3 point gratitude bonus!

How did I show lack of gratitude by giving you a THANK YOU GIFT?

I think I deserved the IBB for giving you in cyberspace something I already gave you in person. Talk about lack of gratitude. . .
