And now the bad news.

#1 Post by nitrah55 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:34 am

Our hearts were light last Thursday when we moved my mom into the assisted living place. It looked like she liked the place.

Friday morning she woke with severe abdominal pain. Kidney stones. She's in the hospital. They've put in a catheter and stent to relieve the pain, and will today perform a test to see what kind of kidney function she has.

Her blood pressure has been a big issue during this stay, and her (new) doctor has serious reservations about her returning to assisted living, where her b/p can't be regularly monitored or medicated.

However this comes out, it's going to be tough. Prayers and good thoughts, please.

I particularly appreciate your thoughts, Sirge, as I know you have a similar situation. Right back at you.

Good luck.

My Mom almost went into a diabetic coma but my sister was there, as she is 24/7, to call the EMTs (we thought it was a stroke, but the important part was that the call got made; & yes, we take her blood sugar daily & it was fine in the am; but apparently when you're that old, have 2ndary diabetes & are on medicine that makes your body produce extra insulin, you really can't eat less because you have a cold & are not hungry; usually, eating less is not my Mom's problem).

Sometimes you do get to a stage where people have to check on you all the time if you want to continue being on this earth.

I glad your sister was there and that your mom didn't face far worse consequences, ghost. Sometimes the hard part is knowing everything that needs to be checked, since the list for everybody seems to keep growing over time.
