Lyrically Speaking - 1/23/17

#1 Post by Ofer37 » Mon Jan 23, 2017 7:50 am

So it's the 16th anniversary of the Bored's Black Tuesday. I'm sure LB will be posting the annual list of posters that day that nobody cares about anytime soon.... and really, who even remembers what happened that day? Or that a telephone used to be all the rage around here back when it could get you a trip to New York. Sigh.... not only has the phone game become obsolete, but I'VE become obsolete along with it. While we can't harken back to the days when you were encouraged to reach out and touch someone, at least we can for one day celebrate all that was great about the almighty telephone with this crappy LSWE game containing phone references in the title or artist. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to activate straight into voicemail mode and just cry...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Hello, how are you
Have you been alright
Through all those lonely
Lonely, lonely, lonely
Lonely, lonely nights

2. Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough

3. To make things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you'll think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way

4. This stone is genuine like love should be
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me

5. So I got up and strolled over
To the other side of the cantina
I asked the guy, why you so fly?

6. I'm just around the corner
If you got a minute to spare
I'll be waiting for you
If you ever want to be there

7. Coast to coast
L.A. to Chicago
Western male
Across the north and
South to Key Largo
Love for sale

8. I tried to call you before
But I lost my nerve
I tried my imagination
But I was disturbed

9. Bill, I love you so, I always will
I look at you and see
The passion eyes of May

10. But if your mind's neglected
Stumble you might fall, stumble you might fall.
Stumble you might fall.

11. If you believe in the power of magic
It's all a fantasy
So if you need to believe in someone
Just pretend it's me

12. Stopped at the record hop, I had to be a sport
We jumped and we did the slop
Then you walked in
And I was caught

Telephone Line - ELO

2. Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough

Call Me - Blondie

3. To make things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you'll think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way

Tainted Love - Soft Cell

4. This stone is genuine like love should be
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me

This Diamond Ring - Al Kooper

5. So I got up and strolled over
To the other side of the cantina
I asked the guy, why you so fly?

Funky Cold Madina - Tone Lōc

6. I'm just around the corner
If you got a minute to spare
I'll be waiting for you
If you ever want to be there

Hold Me - Fleetwood Mac

7. Coast to coast
L.A. to Chicago
Western male
Across the north and
South to Key Largo
Love for sale

Smooth Operator - Sade

8. I tried to call you before
But I lost my nerve
I tried my imagination
But I was disturbed

867‒5309/Jenny - Tommy Tutone

9. Bill, I love you so, I always will
I look at you and see
The passion eyes of May

Wedding Bell Blues - The 5th Dimension

10. But if your mind's neglected
Stumble you might fall, stumble you might fall.
Stumble you might fall.

Connected - Stereo MC's

11. If you believe in the power of magic
It's all a fantasy
So if you need to believe in someone
Just pretend it's me

Don't Answer Me - The Alan Parsons Project

12. Stopped at the record hop, I had to be a sport
We jumped and we did the slop
Then you walked in
And I was caught

Nope

While I admired the creativity of a certain entry, for the IBB I'm going with my favorite play off the theme and that was Frank's TZ pics. The only two eps I could recall that centered around telephone calls (Night Call and the Billy Mumy one) both involved being able to talk to dead people... and despite its reputation, The Twilight Zone rarely entered into the world of ghosts...

Oops... I must've been unable to see it behind that YUGE wall I just built between us and..... um... whatever that country is to the north of us. (Aide whispers in ear) Oh yeah.... Kannada.
