Buckingham Palace also said that Queen Elizabeth II, Margaret's sister, had been told of his death.
Snowdon died peacefully at his home on Friday. Photo agency Camera Press confirmed his death.
One of the country's most famous photographers, Snowdon was one of the few top-echelon royals to hold down an outside job after he married the sister of Queen Elizabeth II in 1960, and his professional reputation grew steadily.

His given name was Anthony Armstrong-Jones.
When I was on Pyramid in 1977, one of the Big Board subjects we didn't get was "Hyphenated Words". There was a short debrief when time ran out and Dick Clark was trying to come up with a good clue... he admitted he didn't think it was a good clue, but then muttered out "Anthony Armstrong-Jones." As a 19 year old at the time, I gave him a blank stare and a shrug.
So that's my brush with Mr. A A-J.
