Neil Boortz, who is a longtime radio talk show host (now retired) in Atlanta, hosted a show this week about his thoughts on the presidential election. He started out, however, by telling the strangest story he had ever come across in his years of covering politics.

In 1975, Jimmy Carter was starting to put his presidential run together, and most people in Georgia were skeptical of Carter's chances. Boortz had a psychic on his show one day and asked the psychic if Carter would be elected President. The psychic replied, "It will snow in Nassau before Jimmy Carter ever becomes President."

Fast forward two years, and there was a recorded snowfall in Nassau on January 19, 1977. Carter was inaugurated the next day.

We had an Ouija board growing up. One weekend in January we asked it when it was going to snow. It told us something like that next Thursday at 10:00 AM. It missed it by 30 minutes. It snowed 30 minutes after the board said. This was in Austin. It snowed in Austin maybe once a year back then. Needless to say we were a little freaked out by it.

But the board also said I would marry a Pat Pearson. Never met such a person. There was a Pat Pearson that ran for student body president one year while I was in college but I never actually met him. Never tried. Maybe because I was scared I'd fall in love with him and it would change everything.

Another thought. Do you think that psychic feels cheated she/he didn't get national attention and a syndicated newspaper column like Jeane Dixon?

Never mock the Ouija. Loooong time ago when my boys were probably, 8-10 & 12, they got their hands on one when a friend brought it over. Totally freaked them out, They asked if the house was haunted and the reply was something like, stay out of the garage. What they didn't know then was before we bought the house, two daughters of the former owner came home one night and parked in the attached garage. The older one wanted to listen to the radio and the younger one went on into the house and to bed. Older girl left the car running, and the only thing that prevented the entire family from perishing was a son who woke up sick and realized something was wrong and was able to rouse the rest of the family and get them out. Older daughter did not make it, they found her on the steps leading from the garage to the house.

This sounds akin to the well-worn anecdote about Al Dark supposedly watching pitcher Gaylord Perry flail helplessly at pitches in the batting cage in the early 60's and uttering "There'll be a man on the moon before he ever hits a home run...."

Perry's first career Major League homer was July 20, 1969... hours after Neil Armstrong's famous walk...

Yesterday I was waiting to make a left turn at a busy intersection, and an impatient lady behind me kept laying on her horn for me to go, even though I really couldn't.

When we finally made our respective turns, she roared past me and flipped me off.

Several hours later, I went out on another errand and pulled up behind a familiar-looking car at another intersection...we were both waiting to make a RIGHT turn. The light was red, but the cross street was on "left turn only" mode, so the traffic was clear.

Lo and behold, it was the EXCT SAME lady.

I resisted my chance for revenge and just gave a friendly "you're allowed to turn right" toot of the horn.

And when I passed HER further down the road, I just looked at her and smiled.

The point of that story?

Coincidences happen, and the odds of them happening are often much higher than people think.

They actually lay on their horns like that in cities other than Boston?

They will lay on their horns here if you've stopped for a small child in the street.

Of course, the hornblowers are often 5 cars back from you, so they wouldn't know that.
