Rock Hall of Fame Corrects A Couple More Snubs

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Tue Dec 20, 2016 11:06 am

Yes
Electric Light Orchestra

Finally! Both should've been inducted years ago.

Pearl Jam

Not my cuppa tea, but among fairly current bands, yeah, I get it

Journey

I'm pretty meh on this band...I've liked some of their stuff but a little goes a long way. Artistically there's not a lot there, but they were undeniably huge and I have always had an issue with the biased nature of the voting panel..Two words in the name of the place..rock, fame. They didn't get much bigger than Journey in their heyday. So I've got no problem with it.

Joan Baez

An important figure in the maturing of "young people's music". no doubt, but rock? Oh well, there are people with even less "rock" credentials that are already in, so...this is one of those "debate the criteria for induction" artists.

Speaking of which...

Tupac Shakur

You all know my feelings on rap. With all of the rock artists still being kept outside the doors, I have some admittedly biased issues with this. Still, it wouldn't be an induction ceremony without at least one inductee getting my dander up.

Producer/Musician Nile Rodgers is being inducted under the "musical excellence" banner. He was one of the creators of disco stalwarts Chic, and a member of Power Station, as well as numerous other musical projects. The committee has nominated Chic innumerable times without success (thankfully), so I guess this was their way of getting him in.

whatever.

Mrs. SSS and I saw her open for the Indigo Girls a couple of years ago at Chastain Park, a popular outdoor music venue in Atlanta, in what was a lowlight of the Atlanta music scene with people talking over her performance so much she could rarely be heard. The Indigo Girls were obviously quite embarrassed by this and called the audience out for their rudeness, then had Joan perform a few songs with them during their set.

You won't get any complaints from me about this year's inductees. I'm not a Pearl Jam fan, but their impact and influence is undeniable. As for everybody else, YES YES YES YES YES and DEFINITELY YES!

What rock 'n roll songs did Tupac record?
IMDB.com wrote:Later that year, he released a solo album, "2Pacalypse Now." Filled with violent lyrics that promoted cop killing and misogyny, it earned both notoriety and acclaim for fans of the genre.
Nice. We have to celebrate that, unless of course Donald Trump said it, right?

Moody Blues
Doobie Brothers
The Monkees
And Casey Kasem in the same wing where Alan Freed is.

But it's OK with you when Johnny Cash said he shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

Context. He is lamenting the fact because he is in prison. He is not celebrating it.

So yes, I'm O.K. with that

If you enjoy that crap, if you enjoy music glorifying thuggery, go for it. Its your life. I just can't get excited about putting it in the Hall of Fame, especially a Hall of Fame for a different genre, putting it in for "diversity". It's BS.
