Makes sense. I'm wondering what took so long.

Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey to forego final bowl games.

It is disappointing as a fan, but given the risk/reward for playing that final bowl game, it is a no brainer for the players; all risk, no reward. It seems the NCAA should be able to allow each player some form of "reward" and paid insurance to cover a career limiting injuries sustained in such final games.

I need to go check my bowl picks now.

What the coaches would lose by staying for the bowl game is valuable recruiting time (as well as time putting a staff together). A lot of highly rated high school prospects make up their minds around now, and a major school can't wait until January for its new coach to get actively involved in recruiting. In the pros, it's different; there's no real loss in filling a vacancy in January because free agency and the draft don't occur for months.

I disagree with the recruiting comment. You're telling me that 82 coaches are at a disadvantage because they are having to coach a bowl game?

Getting to work on building a staff makes sense.
