That didn't take long

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Thu Dec 15, 2016 2:45 pm

Dylann Roof convicted of Federal hate crimes. Jury took less than two hours in deliberations (after six days of testimony).

Sometimes, juries will "deliberate" for as long as it takes to get a free meal sent to them for lunch.

I really don't know what took that long.

Having served on a capital murder jury I can assure you lunch is the last thing jurors are pining for. That was an asshole statement.

This will make the Bored news wire but I agree with Bob more than you on this.

There was absolutely no need, other than to "check the box" to even have a trial on this. Roof should have been hung before any of his victims were buried.

No. Regardless of how cut and dried it is you HAVE to go thru the charges, even if you're all in agreement. A firing squad beforehand probably would have been nice to preclude this whole thing, but, guess what, it's called due fucking process.
And by going thru charges it is literally checking boxes you have written on a whiteboard or whatever.

Sometimes jury deliberations are delayed while the jury prays
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The role of criminal defense counsel is quality control for the criminal justice system. What would anyone want a criminal justice system without quality control? Particularly for a death penalty case. --Bob

Dylann Roof Says Psychology Is 'Jewish Invention,' Won't Present Mental Health Evidence in Trial

Never mind that's it's his only chance of avoiding the death penalty. It's like a bigot who refuses a transplant from somebody with a different race/religion/sexual orientation and dies.

They don't really need the death penalty for him; just put him in the general population and have him discuss his racial and religious views.

They would fit in with the general White population in prison; especially in South Carolina.
