The Boney 500: Songs 24 and 23

24. IF I CAN DREAM-ELVIS PRESLEY (1968)
Album: NBC-TV Special Soundtrack

The closing song from what is commonly referred to as "The '68 Comeback Special". For those who had given up on Elvis as a relic from
the past, the legendary tv special flew directly in the face of that notion. The King put his crown back on and kicked butt throughout
the show, and in case the idea still hadn't been made quite clear by the end, he put a rather emphatic exclamation point on the whole
affair with this song. He attacks it with all the fire of a Sunday Gospel Preacher, blowing the roof off the joint. This song fills me
with emotion every time I hear it. Some relic.

23. GOLDEN SLUMBERS/CARRY THAT WEIGHT/THE END-THE BEATLES (1969)
Album: Abbey Road

Yeah, I'm cheating a little here, but let's face it: you can't really separate these 3 fragments of songs, together they are one song.
An epic end to an epic career. When it's over, the feeling should be clear...there will never be another like them. I will expand on my
thoughts about this in my post regarding the album.

Oh, come on, that's not a spoiler...you KNEW "Abbey Road" would be on the album list. Where, exactly, though....no You Tube video, audio
link here. Click on the arrow to the left of "Golden Slumbers" and let it play through, it will automatically carry through the second and
third songs in the medley.

Wow! Never heard that one from Elvis before. Wow!
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

Indeed. I've known it for close to 50 years, and I still think "wow!".
