Leatherheads

#1 Post by kusch » Sat Apr 05, 2008 9:19 am

I was a "knucklehead" for thinking I might like this movie.

Don't get me wrong, some will like it, I did not.

Yep, those with brain injuries.

From the reviews that I read, I think that I will like it.

I saw 21 last night. I enjoyed it. Only vaguely based on a true story.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

From the previews I have seen, Leatherheads looks horrible. But sometimes previews can be misleading. I almost didn't see The 40 Year Old Virgin because of the previews, but it turned out to be one of the funniest movies in years. That may be because most of the funny jokes were too dirty to be included in the previews.

But I suspect that in the case of Leatherheads the previews are not misleading.

Absolutely Awful Movie. I took 3 10YO sports nuts to it for L'il Spock's birthday.(Plus the Minnesota connection)

I don't think I have ever seen a movie where I cared so little about the protagonits and what was going on.

I heard that it was a zany Romantic Comedy very reminiscent of the 1940s. That sounds good to me.

But then again, I spent the evening watching DVDs of the The Avengers television show with Emma.

At least it wasn't the movie version. Blech!

I didn't have the movie version, but only because I would watch Ralph Fiennes read the phone book.

Was that how she came to be called "Emma?"

No, I named her after Jane Austen's Emma. Since Maddie had a book with her name on it, I wanted to make sure that Emma did as well.

As much as I love George Clooney, I figured this was one I would wait until it hit HBO or something where I could watch it for "free" and bail when that annoying Zellweger creature hit my screen. The reviews were pretty scathing.

Regarding "21", I have three of Mezrich's books and I enjoyed Bringing Down the House, and I may actually go see it, but I don't see having the time. It is doing surprisingly well at the box office, so it might stick around. I just don't like how the main character went from Asian to Caucasian.

I only know about the book from the History Channel and news reports, but I don't think the movie was very faithful to the book, (shocker!) but they made an entertaining movie.

Mini, have you seen any previews for Tracey Ullman's State of the Union show on Showtime? Her impersonation of La Zellweger is hysterical. ......"chronic, narcissistic squint." snort.

I was a "doubter."

Boy, did they nail that one so to speak.

It's a little known fact that there was an archangel named "KillerTomato."

That's also Rain Man's name. I asked for all the questioning, I guess. I picked the name...

Grrrrr! I have HBO, Encore, and Starz. I THINK we have Showtime at the beach house, but we didn't go for Easter this year.

I'll see if the s-i-l has it and will Tivo for me....
