A funeral
This morning, I went to the funeral of a retired professor and long-time friend. She was a woman of strong and strident political opinions, who could neither tolerate disagreement nor abide many people who did not share her world view. Nevertheless, I frequently disagreed with her. We argued often, sometimes vehemently -- then one of us would make the other laugh, and we would both dissolve in guffaws, postponing that argument for another day. Sometimes we surprised each other with the discovery that we had followed opposing paths of information, logic, and emotion to reach similar conclusions on specific issues.
Like all the best funerals, this one included near tears and laughter. To my surprise, one of the eulogies was delivered by Anita Hill. Yes, that Anita Hill. For the record, she did a superb job with her portion of the services.

Sorry for your loss, sliv. Sounds like she would have easily fit in on this bored. She was a woman of strong and strident political opinions, who could neither tolerate disagreement nor abide many people who did not share her world view. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, SC.
I'm sure all the eulogies were fitting tribute.

I like courteous discourse, a lot. I'm sorry you will miss hers.
