6. GLORY OF LOVE – PETER CETERA
Might this one need, in parenthesis, "Theme From "The Karate Kid II"?
Also, artist on 76 is John Stewart, many did #79, One hit pop version was by Rick Nelson.

Both of these were correct on the original consolidation, so there may be some more BIF errors...

Re: Game #163: American Music
OK, I think this is a more accurate up to date consolidation of what we have so far....
Game #163: American Music
Identify the 120 songs in the clues below. (Most are from the pop charts, but we make several excursions elsewhere, including one visit to church and another to my alma mater.) Then, match them into 30 pairs and 20 trios according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. No song will be used twice.
Yes, it is that simple.
Hints from Frank: (A) In terms of mechanics, this game resembles my 'We Are the World' game from last year.
(B) The title does mean something, but not what you think it means, and it may not help right now. You have to think outside the box.

And while we're at it, #105 should be YOU BETTER SIT DOWN KIDS by Sonny & Cher.

No. It was written by Sonny Bono, but first appeared on one of Cher's solo albums.Pastor Fireball wrote:And while we're at it, #105 should be YOU BETTER SIT DOWN KIDS by Sonny & Cher.

Re: Game #163: American Music
Damn. I thought I had this one nailed down, but I hit another dead end.
After I corrected the title of that Cher song, the "You Better" made me think of two other songs--"You Better Run" by Pat Benatar and "You Better You Bet" by the Who. They were the second and fourth videos played on MTV, 35 years ago this past August.
I thought that we would have to form the titles of videos played on MTV's first day, but that won't work with this group of songs. It falls apart immediately with song #1 in this game. No Bruce Springsteen videos were played on MTV's first day, nor did any video contain the word "American" or "Music" in its title.
It's a shame, though, because Todd Rundgren had the eighth video on MTV ("Time Heals").

Nothing is jumping out at me, and I even tried attacking it yesterday with no preconceived notions at all and looking only at the more bizarre entries in the list and trying to imagine why they'd be there. Of course, I'm rarely the "a-ha!" person in these games....

Re: Game #163: American Music
Just spent about an hour staring at stuff, and no lightning strike yet. But here's what I've got:
First, I looked up the rest of the unknown songs --
16 is Long After I'm Gone -- Big Kenny
53 is Killing is my Business -- Megadeth
56 is Walkin' in the Sunshine -- Roger Miller
70 is What Do You Say -- Reba McIntire
71 is Don't Forget About Us -- Mariah Carey
72 is Far Above Cayuga's Waters -- The Cornell fight song
90 is Nobody's Fool -- Cinderella
91 is Island in the Sun -- Harry Brlafonte, which is funny, because Frank Complained about how hard it was to work with Belafonte's catalogue in the WATW game
93 is Out Last Night -- Kenny Chesney
99 is Early in the Morning -- The Gap Band
I tried to think of a big group of people like USA for Africa that could be made to fit with the mechanics of Frank's earlier game. I got some glimmers with members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I don't think there's enough there there. I can get Another Saturday Night for Sam Cooke, Born to Run for Springsteen, Angel for Aerosmith, and Stand By Me for the Drifters, but it really falls off there. Some other troubles with that notion: Taxi is on here, but Joni Mitchell's not, and I can't think of another Taxi song, and Harry Chapin's not in the HoF.
Another thing I noticed is that there are two songs with the word Sweet in the title, and only one other word. That may indicate that the key word is the other one in each case -- like Seasons and Surrender. I could make Seasons in the Sun. Maybe it's Americans who are not USAns, since Terry Jacks is Canadian?
I dunno, but I have to stop again now.
Come to think of it, Frank's last message may have been a clue pointing toward Canadians.

The "eh" in frank's last comment made me look for a Canadian connection. "Surrender" makes me think of "Never Surrender" by Corey Hart, another Canadian.... and there is a Never song in the game!
Maybe we do need to look north....

Game #163: American Music
Identify the 120 songs in the clues below. (Most are from the pop charts, but we make several excursions elsewhere, including one visit to church and another to my alma mater.) Re: Game #163: American Music
Another Canadian artist I thought of is the Stampeders. There is one CITY song and one WOMAN song, but as mrk noted, two SWEET songs....
Maybe (probably) there is an added element to this theme...
I'm going back to working on my blog comic, so I'll leave this to anyone else who wants to tackle it....
