Yes, decarbonization is attractive to Manhattan and San Francisco; they'll be the first to flood.

In the last few days an Oklahoma student sent violent racist messages to all the black freshmen at Penn, and three guys assaulted a black coed on the Villanova campus. The perpetrators were all young men who claimed to support Trump. That's just in my local area. Mr. Trump and President Obama have talked about peaceful transition. They should both tell their followers to express themselves non-violently and respectfully.Estonut wrote:Oh, please!ghostjmf wrote:... kids who are citizens being told "you're being deported, ha ha" by classmates, etc is too much when 1 second of it is too much.

SSS>>"And a lot of them were union members, which is ironic, since the Republicans want to dismantle the unions completely so that the midwestern states can enjoy the same wonderful wages and benefits that prevail in the south. "
Jeez, give your union guys a little credit. They are all well-aware of the "Republican-Union Busting" meme. I think they imbibe it with their mother's milk. A union guy who votes Republican is doing so in spite of the meme, not because they are unaware of it.
Obama/Hillary/SSS etc provide a very constrained view of the future-apply for this government program/qualify for that health care subsidy-blah, blah, blah.
Trump offered a more dynamic vision of the future that obviously resonated enough to score one the greatest political upsets in history. It even has its own version of "Dewey defeats Truman" with the "Newsweek-Madame President" snafu.
Maybe, at the end of the day, Trump won because his way is just more fun.
And maybe, the American people are not quite yet ready to be good, little 1984 government drones.

OK Spock, you are now officially on record as saying making fun of disabled people is fun. Ditto lying like, as a friend of mine used to say, a rug. About just about everything. Starting w/ those imaginary Muslims in NJ celebrating on 9/11.

In a way, this is the smug, snarky, soundbitey, John Stewarty crap that maybe illustrates why your side lost the election. My suggestion was (if you were interested) to read Kotkin's body of work to maybe learn something about why Trump won. VDH (Victor Davis Hanson) is good too, but Kotkin is less wonky.
Right away, you focused in on a soundbite-"Oh, goody-I can attack Kotkin with the Oklahoma fracking deal and Global Warming. I don't have to think about what he is saying."
Is it your contention that energy is not an important industry in Oklahoma, and by all indications will remain so for the foreseeable future?

On the topic of re-alignment. Nobody has mentioned a word about Illinois. Obviously, it is a bridge too far for the presidential campaign.
However, when you look at this map. It is really hard to see state lines, but the magnitude of the move towards Trump appears to be just as large (or larger) in northern/northwestern Illinois as it is across the rest of the relevant area. Makes sense-small factory towns there, just like other parts of the region and you didn't have home-state Obama on the ballot this time.

I fully encourage you to attribute Trump's victory to the best slogan. There is an obvious meme developing by the left to attribute Trump's win to the slogan.
However, things like the Keystone Pipeline are real issues and they resonate with blue-collar guys.
I asked in the other thread-How long can blue-collar guys in the heartland find a place in a party that is increasingly dominated by Wellesley snowflake children?
Maybe the answer is, not anymore. The Obama admin catered to the Wellesley snowflakes on things like the Keystone Pipeline and actively pushed away the Blue-Collar guys.

I am completely baffled (but Thankful) that the smartest people in the world (Hilary's campaign) could look at the turmoil in Wisconsin over the last few years-The Scott Walker recall effort and so forth-and come up with the analysis of "Nothing to See Here"-and not have her visit there since April or at least keep an eye on the place.Estonut wrote:It's a good thing that Hillary thinks she's smarter than Bubba. One of my favorite potboilers is Stephen Hunter's book "Point of Impact." I challenge anyone to read the final courtroom scene (after reading the whole book, of course) and not be reminded of the outcome of this election.

Not as much laughter as I've had to stifle the past 6 days. I'm well aware Trump is not of high moral character. I did not vote for him. I am not blind. Your "told you so"s over the next four years are useless. You've told me nothing I did not know about Trump. My expectations are low, maybe as low as yours. But they are higher than my expectations would have been under Clinton. We dodged a cannonball, but not the bullet.

My sentiments exactly. I did not vote for Trump either. He was by a very small margin the lesser of two evils. My frustration is that the republicans had 17 candidates, and at least 10 of them would have been a much better choice than either of the two finalists.BackInTex wrote:Not as much laughter as I've had to stifle the past 6 days.
