Which airline is next to go?

#1 Post by Buffacuse » Fri Apr 04, 2008 6:55 pm

My spidey sense, and a couple of banker friends who know this stuff, tell me JetBlue could well be next to go...still haven't fully recovered from the hit they took after the ground-delay fiasco, their founder just bailed to start an airline in Brazil, and they are scrambling for financing. Nothing probably iminent, but might not last the year.

Skybus running out of Columbus OH just went belly up tonight. It's not even out there yet.

They are dropping like flies...Maxjet a few months ago too. I wonder how Spirit will manage with their cheap fares, and how Southwest will weather their current PR debacle. Alaska Air? Air Tran? Do any of these that rely on high volume and cheaper fares have the deep pockets to ride out these fuel costs?

Just read the announcement on the Skybus website--at least they had the decency to complete their flights today--they day they made the announcement--rather than hosing thousands who woke up in the AM, didn't check their computers or the news, and went to the airport to find an empty ATA ticket counter--I can't imagine doing that with my kids looking forward to a vacation or a family visit. The Board at ATA are vermin.

Skybus was predicted to be the next one. You can't sell $10 fares and expect to pay the fuel bill!

There are a lot of low cost carriers flying big planes or fuel-heavy planes...they got old aircraft on the cheap, but the gas bill will kill them.

I hope they wait a while. Maddie's quiz bowl team has tickets on JetBlue for the National Championships in Chicago in May.

Jet Blue seems pretty healthy to me. They're adding new destinations from Austin.
