Retail news.
My cable company doesn't carry BBC news, but fortunately the local PBS station offer a half hour of BBC World every night at 11.
It's really amazing how much news they cover compared to CNN, Fox, MSNBC, et al. On those other stations, you get a half hour (or more) of teasers followed by some irrelevant BS intermingled with neverending campaign coverage by the same talking heads saying the same crap ad nauseum. On BBC, you actually get in depth reports on the Mugabe situation and the missile shield stuff in Russia, etc, etc. Where has the real news gone?

Ain't that the truth! They spend more time telling you about what's coming up later than actually telling you any news. And even Headline News has largely stopped doing news anymore. Yet I still wind up on the computer with one of those "news" stations providing background noise most of the day.marrymeflyfree wrote:It's really amazing how much news they cover compared to CNN, Fox, MSNBC, et al. Not sure what this has to do with "retail." I thought maybe you were going to talk about the Home Shopping Network.

Ask the viewers who flocked to the tabloid style of Fox News and the local versions (of which, sad to say, Boston has two, owned by the same company). Then ask the media bosses who copied them to regain viewers.
You could shrink most news programs by half and you wouldn't miss anything. That includes the morning shows. Real news has been replaced by the likes of "Pregnant Man" coverage. I miss it, too.

I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Same here...we don't watch a lot of TV and end up with CNN on in the background too much. It's just getting on my nerves lately more than usual since it has become the Campaign News Network.TheConfessor wrote:Yet I still wind up on the computer with one of those "news" stations providing background noise most of the day.
It just feels retail to me. Too polished and pre-packaged. Gimme some wholesale nitty gritty that doesn't have anything to do with which candidate ate at what diner yesterday.TheConfessor wrote:Not sure what this has to do with "retail." Agreed! I have to admit, I used to watch the Today show. It's always been a little fluffy, but they did have some good interviews now and then. Now it is almost like watching 4 hours of The View. More so now that Kathy Lee Gifford is joining the crew.
I sat next to Hoda Kotb on a flight about 2 years ago. Very nice and very sharp woman! But if I had the pleasure of her company now, I'd have to ask about that.

I stopped watching local news completely. I figure that what I need to know I will get from the LA Times or the Internet.
I just saw in the newspaper that several of the local news anchors that have been around for a whlie (Ann Martin, Harold Greene) won't be returning to do the news as a cost-saving measure.

Ironically, that development hasn't yet made television news. Even on their own station. --BobPlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:I stopped watching local news completely. I figure that what I need to know I will get from the LA Times or the Internet.

I think that the article indicated that their contracts are up in June. Maybe they are waiting until that time to break it to the television public.Bob78164 wrote:Ironically, that development hasn't yet made television news.
