Another live college mascot nears the end

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Mon Oct 10, 2016 9:07 am

LSU's Mike the Tiger (Mike VI) has been moved to hospice care.

Mike, the live mascot at LSU since 2007, was diagnosed with cancer in May and treated at that time. Unfortunately, it didn't work. He is 12 years old.

I dunno how long tigers are *s'posed* to live, but I'd say surviving cancer 5 years means it *did* work, at least for a while.

With one of my cats, treated for cancer who also went into remission for awhile (3 years) they explained they don't give animals the huge doses of chemo they give people. You can't explain to an animal why they feel awful, so you mainly give them drugs along w/ the treatment to make them feel on-the-whole better.

They also give people drugs to feel better too, of course, but the chemo &/or radiation makes them feel so awful the feel-good drugs don't work so well.

Well, not sure where five years comes from; the treatment was only a few months ago. I do know that tigers in captivity usually make it into their twenties.

And the folks at Texas have sent over a nice bouquet of flowers from the latest Bevo to Mike.

I misread; I thought you were saying he was treated in 2007.
