Flyers "Dursted" by ATA
I searched and was surprised this story wasn't posted yet. The airline with a WWTBAM lifeline name suddenly went out of business earlier today, leaving flyers stranded.

There is a list of airlines here with a PAF listed.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Just stay off Bob Evans's private jet.

Sorry about that typo.
I was typing from a Blackberry and they were just telling everyone to turn the damn things off. Plus the font is tiny and hard to read ( well, it is at my age anyway!).
We finally got here. I have a migraine and forgot my meds. It's now 6PM and I'm fighting it. Lord, I hope it goes away soon.

This one was particularly brutal. Employees had less than one day's notice, and flyers showed up to ticket counters to find no one there. I often wonder in these about people who scrape together some money for a once in a lifetime trip somewhere and wind up getting hosed--I literally saw one bride still in her wedding gown at an abandoned ATA counter crying on the news.
I understand they had to fold--but they didn't just figure this out overnight. Shame on them for the way they did this to their own people and the thousands who were nailed.

ATA had ceased nearly all of their commercial flying, but they still did a TON of military charters. I heard that they lost two huge military contracts, and decided to cease operations immediately after that news came down.
Speaking of charter flying....I also heard that United Airlines was doing a charter for the White House press corps. When UAL grounded their 777's the other day in the latest maintenance snafu, the whole group got delayed with the plane in Bucharest. Whoops.
