Okay, I've found three examples that work. This could be a bastard to work out, but I think I've got it, or mostly it.

There are two songs that we use part of the title for, plus one group that has another song that we use as part of the title, and the fourth is a group that had a hit with the song whose title we made. Examples:

82. GAMES without frontiers + 76. Barbra Streisand (PEOPLE) + 91. Let the music PLAY = GAMES PEOPLE PLAY (15. Alan Parsons Project)

83. Heart (ALONE) + 36. I just fall in love AGAIN + 42. Act NATURALLY = ALONE AGAIN (NATURALLY) (20. Gilbert O’Sullivan)

22. SWEET baby james + 38. Fleetwood Mac (DREAMS) + 86. Memories ARE MADE OF THIS = SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) (64. Eurythmics)

Montell Jordan had a song called "Falling" (and in full disclosure, I did look that up... I know it's early, but who knew he wasn't a OHW?), so the sandwich song is #45...

28. CATCH A + 45. Montell Jordan (FALLING) + 76. STAR + 16. PERRY COMO

I was initially read mrk's explanation of the Tangredi wrong, because this was the first song I found when I went back and looked and was confused as to why we already had two "Time" songs. Ahhhhh....

53. OLD + 15. Alan Parsons Project (TIME) + 34. ROCK AND ROLL = 71. Bob Seger

One small refinement is all you need to nail this down. That refinement will make it easier to make the songwiches by narrowing down the possibilities.

I had a feeling the 'aha' moment was coming fairly soon. Well done!

The refinement should be that the formula for making our quartets should always be this:

bread + filling + bread = songwich

where:

-- "bread" = a word or words from one of the songs on the list
-- "filling" = a different and complete song title by one of the artists on the list

That means this match:
mrkelley23 wrote:83. Heart (ALONE) + 36. I just fall in love AGAIN + 42. Act NATURALLY = ALONE AGAIN (NATURALLY) (20. Gilbert O’Sullivan)
won't work because the "filling" is in the beginning rather than in the middle. We have to put it like this instead:

97. ALONE at Last + AGAIN (Janet Jackson? Lenny Kravitz?) + 42. Act NATURALLY = ALONE AGAIN (NATURALLY) (20. Gilbert O’Sullivan)
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

I've been trying to hone in on what the filler songs should be.... but even that's been a chore. fastball has to be here for "The Way", Lonestar's biggest hit was "Amazed" (But I can only come up with "Maybe I'm Amazed, which doesn't fit the pattern), The Commodores would make sense for "Easy" ("Peaceful Easy Feeling" would make sense, but only if most of the match is still in our unknowns), etc. I have found it's hard to think of song titles with a certain word or short phrase in them when what you're looking for is in the middle...

There is one last refinement to the 'bread' that will make it easier to narrow the matches down. Let me ask it this way. Why is THIS match

53. Old Days + Time (15. The Alan Parsons Project) + 34. The Heart of Rock and Roll = Old Time Rock and Roll (71. Bob Seger)

correct, but not THIS match:

53. Old Days + Time (15. The Alan Parsons Project) + 9. It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me = Old Time Rock and Roll (71. Bob Seger)

Didn't even realize there were two rock and roll songs!

So we need:

First part of a song title + Alternate song title from an artist + Last part of a song title = Alternate song from an artist!

That means I have to change my Santana match to...

3. BLACK + 48. The Cars (MAGIC) + 94. WOMAN = 63. Santana

I'm new to this, but jumping in with the pop hits...

56. BABY Imma Want You + (ONE MORE--couldn't find this in the list, but may help solve the unknowns) + either 66. One Moment in TIME or 78. Give Me Just a Little TIME = 11. BRITNEY SPEARS

If one of these titles is corrected, it will make everything else fall into place.

Yeah, the correct title of the Chairmen of the Bored song is "Give Me Just a Little MORE TIME," so we need a "One" song for that match. Three Dog Night?

I always knee-jerk Three Dog Night as well... but just like the last puzzle that was a component of...

ACK! I didn't realize I didn't have MORE TIME in there.

My own fault for actually singing as I typed. LOL!!!

And -- harking back to Professor Tangredi's LAST lyric game, I believe the provider of ONE will be Bono and friends, 39. U2

I tried very hard to make Three Dog Night work, but in order for things to come out even, I had to make some songs do double or triple duty.

Thursday consolidation:

Game #162: Songwich

Identify the 100 songs in the clues below. (Most are from the pop charts, but we make several excursions elsewhere, including a few notable album cuts.) Then, match them into 45 foursomes according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself.

51 songs will be used twice, each time in a different capacity. 13 songs will be used three times, each time in a different capacity. One song will be used four times, each time in a different capacity. Yes, there are four ways a song can be used, though two of them are variations of the same usage. You’ll see, I hope.

At least two of the songs in every foursome are used more than once in the game. In twelve of the foursomes, all four songs are used more than once in the game.

A song cannot be used twice in the same foursome.

Where a song title is relevant, words in parentheses should be treated as part of the title.

Where an artist is relevant, I am usually looking for the original artist. There are a few exceptions where someone else arguably had the definitive and/or most successful version of a song.

I hope this proves an easier nut to crack than the last game. And I do hope those pesky alternate solutions don’t screw things up. Play on!

Tangredi:
First part of title + Alternate song title from artist + Last part of title = Alternate song title from artist

Matches:
82. GAMES Without Frontiers + PEOPLE (76. Barbra Streisand) + 91. Let the Music PLAY = 15. Alan Parsons Project
