First hour wasn't too bad. This was a "Real American Heroes" episode; the contestant was a police officer who saved an elderly woman from a burning building.

Actually, I knew about it in the mid-90s (looooooong after 4th grade...), when I started trying to calculate how long Clinton had to stay in office so that Gore could serve two more full terms if Clinton got impeached. I mean, convicted. You know what I mean.

Maddie's quiz bowl team raises money by buying theatre tickets at a group rate and selling them at face value.

So tonight we saw Phantom of the Opera. I have seen it three times, including one time with Robert Guillaume as the Phantom and I have to saw that this Phantom was my least-favorite. He was a big whiny baby and for the first time ever, I rooted for Raul to get the girl.

One interesting point from the second contestant's run; unlike J!, 5th Grader will not allow their contestants to be "more specific"; once they lock in an answer, they have to live with it.

It was a math question (and the contestant had said he was strong in math) which asked:

What is the range of the following numbers: 3, 4, 8, 7?

(I may not have all the numbers in that set right, but the important ones are.)

The contestant answered "3 to 8", but Jeff told him that he hadn't completed his work. The answer they were looking for was "5".

Nathan saved him on that one.

I also still wonder if the APs brief the contestants about the kids in the class before the show, since I suspect all these episodes with the new class were taped before any of them aired. So many contestants call on Nathan early on, even though he likes being saved for last, when he can help with the big money questions.
