Kevin Carll
Real estate appraiser
La Mesa, Cal.

$10,000
Because there’s actually no “the” in it, which of these names of famous characters is written incorrectly?
A: Tony the Tiger B: Smokey the Bear
C: Bob the Builder D: Thomas the Tank Engine
Answer
B: Smokey the Bear

One of only two times it was an official Olympic event, in 1904 a Canadian team comprised entirely of Mohawk Indians won the bronze in what?
A: Archery B: Hammer throw
C: American football D: Lacrosse
50/50
Mohawk suggests tomahawk, which is similar to hammer throw. Kevin thinks archery has been an Olympic event more than twice. He knows of Native American football players like Jim Thorpe. (He has no idea of lacrosse’s Native American origins.)
50/50 leaves American football and lacrosse.
Answer
Kevin answers C: American football.
The right answer is D: Lacrosse.
Kevin wins $5,000.

Both of those questions were pretty easy, especially if you remembered the origins of Lacrosse from when you were in school. I'd be at the $30k question with ATA and my +1 still in play.

Spoiler
For tomahawk to be "similar" to hammer throw, he must have thought that they throw claw or ball-peen types of hammers. I suspect he's never actually seen the hammer throw.

Smokey came from just down the road in New Mexico.

Given that lacrosse was a Native American sport, that would have been my answer.
