State Dept Warns: Iran Seeking to Capture U.S. Citizens
The State Department issued a warning on Monday urging U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to Iran, which has made the detention of Americans a priority.
400 million reasons this happened. Can any of the Obama lovers explain to me why it was a good idea, hell, not even a good idea, why it was NOT a terrible idea, to send Iran $400 million in easily distributed and untraceable currency? You know, the stuff terrorists and criminals use?

I know SSS will defend his party by saying we owed them the money. But we could have transferred the funds electronically, but no, we saved them the trouble of laundering it so it could be immediately put to use to buy weapons and fund terrorists.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Gee, it's only the right-wing websites that are making a big deal about this. The travel warning is not all that different from the previous one:

As for the money being untraceable, doesn't each bill have a serial number?

How do you trace funds sent electronically? Iran could simply pull the money out of the receiving bank in cash.

Here's the bottom line: Iran was going to get the money. If we'd delayed, Iran might well have gotten more money from the tribunal that would probably have ruled against us. So what would you be saying right now if we'd delivered the money without getting the Americans back? --Bob

Not simply. Maybe small amounts, but not $400 million. It would take time, and I'm not sure all banks would comply. Not sure many banks will convert Iranian rials to their native currency.

We helped them. A lot. Might as well given them U.S. passports and cab rides to the airports.

What we did was no different than banks here are forbidden to do because it helps crime syndicates to launder money.

If there was nothing wrong with this, why lie about it initially?

What lie was told?

I knew you leaned right.

I didn't take you for one that mindlessly parroted Drudge and the like.

And no- we couldn't have transferred the money electronically. There's no banking relationships in place to facilitate a transfer in such a manner.
