He passed away yesterday at age 92, less than two months after his wife of 68 years passed away.

Hiller was Canadian and was probably the most accomplished Canadian director of all time (not the same as the best). As with actors like Plummer, Shatner, and Sutherland, there weren't any decent opportunities in Canada when he started, so he spent a decade doing TV work in the U.S. before getting his chance in films.
