Kenneth Brannagh's film after Henry V - ARRRRRGH I can't think of the title
It was MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. Emma Thompson has two and Denzel Washington has two but I can't think of anyone else.
I was thinking of the various versions of Midsummer's Night's Dream and I keepcoming up short.
The Kevin Kline version, I can only think of him. The old Warner Brothers' version - I can only think of DeHaviland and Cagney.

It has Robin Williams, Kate Winslet, Jack Lemmon, Judi Dench, John Gielgud, Charlton Heston, Richard Attenborough and Branagh.
There's a bunch of winners and nominations there.
AND Julie Christie and John Mills.
So, even if some of the roles are minor, there are so many fine actors that we should be able to come up with five Oscars among the seven.

Maybe it's something like:
ORCA, for example, is directed by Michael Anderson, whose film Around the World in 80 Days won Best Picture and starred CANTINFLAS.
Franklin Schaffner dired Planet of the Apes and Patton, and we have Karl Malden who was Bradley in that.
My guess is the not entirely perfect reflects multiple wins for people.

A-1. THE WIZARD OF OZ - Fleming, who directed Gone with the Wind
A-2. THE THIRD MAN - Reed, did Oliver!
A-3. TERMINATOR 2 - Cameron, Titanic

We can work backwards for the pictures we're missing.
A couple off the top of my head. I cannot consolidation because I am heading into a 9:30 a.m. meeting.
Can someone consolidate?
Bessie Love was in Broadway Melody
Walter Pidgeon in How Green Was My Valley
Bing Crosby in Going My Way
Maurice Chevalier in Gigi
Ian Holm in Chariots of Fire
Robert Redford in Out of Africa
Lew Ayres in All Quiet on the Western Front
Irene Dunne in Cimmaron
Myrna Loy in The Great Ziegfeld
Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady
Broderick Crawford in All the King's Men
Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca
Annette Bening in American Beauty
Ernest Borgnine in Marty
I see what Frank meant when he said everything would follow quickly once we got the Tangredi.

Tangredi: The films in List A were directed by men who directed one or more Best Picture Oscar winners, which starred or featured an actor/actress from List B.
To make this easier on me, I'll arrange these by the year that the Best Picture Oscars were awarded.
I didn't include the actor/actress list. I just don't have time right now

OK, how could I have overlooked these?
Eddie "Rochester" Anderson also appeared in GWTW as Uncle Peter.
Susannah York played one of Thomas More's daughters in "A Man for All Seasons".
B-42 is WILLEM DAFOE. He played a vampire in "Shadow of the Vampire" and Jesus in "The Last Temptation of Christ". He also appeared in both "Platoon" and "The English Patient".
B-36 can't be Geena Davis, as it has to be an actress who appeared in "Chariots of Fire" or "Dances with Wolves".

I think we can finish this up.NellyLunatic1980 wrote:OK, how could I have overlooked these?

You got Dafoe, which finishes off Platoon & The English Patient
I will bet that A-64, the missing DeMille movie, is the 1927 version of King of Kings.
Chariots of Fire = The second use of Ian Holm
A Beautiful Mind = The second use of Christopher Plummer
The Man for All Seasons = The second use of Susanna York, who played Scofield's daughter.
The Fisst Lady/President is Mary What's-Her-Name, who is the president on one of the star Trek spinoffs. She was the female lead in Dances with Wolves.

I told you that you'd finish this off quickly once you got the Tangredi. There are no alternative correct matches, because I just had to avoid using any two actors who appeared together in any of the 80 movies, and the directors took care of themselves.mellytu74 wrote:I think we can finish this up.NellyLunatic1980 wrote:OK, how could I have overlooked these?

Ordinarily, I wouldn't have used Eddie Anderson for this purpose, but he turned out to be the only person who allowed me to write a clue for IAMMMMW. Spencer Tracy never appeared in a Best Picture winner. A couple of the people who showed up in IAMMMMW also showed up in Around the World in 80 Days, but that would have been digging a little too deep into both casts. (One special challenge was avoiding the entire cast but one of Around the World in 80 Days.)
So ... as straightforward as this one was, what prevented it from being 100% perfect? (It's not because next year there will be another picture to add.)

The multiple winners weren't a problem because they just meant some clues had to be used more than once. The problem was indeed that Jerome Robbins received co-directing credit for West Side Story -- and never directed another movie. Therefore, it was impossible to write a clue for Jerome Robbins and make that one a triple.Weyoun wrote:Excellent game and work!
Only guess I have as to why it can't be "perfect" is that directors directed multiple winners - Ford or Coppola for example. The other quirk, the co-win for Robbins and Wise, could be gotten around by having Sound point to Wise and West Side to Robbins.

Ah, I see your point - though somehow if you had mentioned there was one triple, the Tangredi might have fallen into place all the faster!franktangredi wrote:The multiple winners weren't a problem because they just meant some clues had to be used more than once. Enjoyed this one, like it when I figure them out, instead of glazing over the answer...
